MARC’S TREEHOUSE LODGE ǀ Accommodation in Greater Kruger National Park

Marc’s Treehouse Lodge is located in the Motlala Game Reserve which is home to 3 of the Big 5 (rhino, buffalo and leopard) and an abundance of antelope. Motlala Game Reserve falls within the Greater Kruger National Park and is ideally located to the iconic Kruger Park and the major tourist attractions of the Hoedspruit region. 

The tented accommodation at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge is rustic but comfortable. The canvas safari tents are tucked away in a woodland grove with the sights, sounds and scents of the wild African bush creating an authentic safari experience.

Each safari tent is fully-equipped for comfort and convenience, including electric fans and mosquito nets. Guests enjoy watching the parade of animals that come down to the Klaserie River on their private wooden deck overlook the Klaserie River . 

SABA AIRPORT LODGE ǀ Accommodation in Johannesburg

Saba Airport Lodge offers 3-star accommodation in a country setting only a short 10-minute drive from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg. Daily shuttles to/from the airport are available at no extra charge. The lodge is owned by a leading tour operator who specialises in day tours to Soweto, Johannesburg and Pretoria as well as tours to the iconic Kruger National Park, Pilanesberg Game Reserve and Sun City. 

Accommodation at Saba Airport Lodge is clean and comfortable. Turnberry Boutique Hotel is located in the heart of the picturesque town of Oudtshoorn in the Klein Karoo. Accommodation ranges from classic double rooms to luxury family suites and the Presidential suite. 

The air-conditioned ensuite rooms are fully-equipped for your comfort and convenience which includes free Wi-Fi, a flatscreen TV with satellite channels, a tea/coffee station and mini bar.

Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - HOEDSPRUIT, GREATER KRUGER (approx 454 kilometres)

Guests are collected from OR Tambo International Airport or a hotel/guest lodge in Johannesburg or Pretoria. The route to Hoedspruit in the Greater Kruger National Park takes you from the wide-open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the lush Lowveld valley to the iconic wilderness region of the northern region of Mpumalanga.

The drive to Tremisana Lodge takes between 5-6 hours with a stop along the way for lunch. Once settled into your accommodation in the Balule Big 5 Game Reserve, relax and freshen up before departing for a sunset game drive in the game reserve. Enjoy sundowners in the bush before we make our way back to the safari lodge. 

Overnight at Tremisana Lodge. Guests dine under the stars at the Marula Tree Boma.

DAY 2: MOTLALA GAME RESERVE & BALULE GAME RESERVE, GREATER KRUGER

The day starts with hot beverages and rusks as the sun rises over the Greater Kruger National Park. Guests are driven to a remote area in the Balule Game Reserve for 4-hour guided bush walk in the company of a professional game ranger.

Return to Tremisana Lodge for a late breakfast and relaxation; pack up your things because we stay in different accommodation in the Greater Kruger tonight. Enjoy High Tea at 14h00 before departing at 15h00 for a late-afternoon game drive in Balule Game Reserve. 

Overnight at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge in Motlala Game Reserve . This is rustic treehouse or tented accommodation that offers guests an authentic safari experience. Guests dine under the stars around a roaring fire in the boma.

DAY 3: MOTLALA GAME RESERVE - KRUGER PARK NATIONAL PARK (approx 50 kilometres)

Early wake-up, hot beverages and a delicious breakfast before departing for a safari tour of the Kruger National Park. Guests travel in an open safari vehicle in the company of a professional game ranger. A full day is spent exploring the central-eastern region of the Kruger Park which is renowned for its outstanding biodiversity and Big 5 wildlife sightings.

Lunch at a popular Kruger Park rest camp and some time to relax before departing for the return drive through the Kruger Park to Motlala Game Reserve. 

Overnight at Marc’s Treehouse Lodge. Guests dine under the stars at Marc’s boma.

DAY 4: MOTLALA GAME RESERVE - JOHANNESBURG (approx 454 kilometres)

Wake up early for hot beverages and rusks as the sun comes up. Depart for an early morning bushwalk in Motlala Game Reserve with an armed game ranger. Return to the lodge for breakfast; pack up your things and be ready to depart mid-morning for Johannesburg. The drive back to Johannesburg is via the iconic Panoramic Route. Guests enjoy a few stops and lunch along the way. 

Overnight at Saba Airport Lodge late afternoon. You can stay in and have dinner at the lodge restaurant or catch the shuttle bus to a large shopping centre close by where you’ll find a selection of great restaurants.

DAY 5: JOHANNESBURG - CAPE TOWN (2-hour flight not included in the tour rate)

Wake up early for breakfast; pack up and be ready to depart on the Saba shuttle bus for OR Tambo International Airport. It’s a 2-hour flight to Cape Town (flight cost not included in the tour rate). A driver picks you up from the airport and takes you through to Tamboerskloof in the world-famous Cape City Bowl.

The afternoon and evening are at your leisure. Your tour guide will recommend places to visit and things to do but the most popular destination is the V&A Waterfront which is a short 15-minute drive from your accommodation in Tamboerskloof. 

Overnight at The Blue House in Tamboerskloof. Dine in or eat out in the City Bowl.

DAY 6: CAPE TOWN

Wake up early for breakfast at The Blue House. The rest of the day is at your leisure. You can book a tour of the Cape Peninsular or the Cape Winelands. Speak to Moafrika Tours beforehand for ideas and costs.

Overnight at The Blue House in Tamboerskloof. Dine in or eat out in the City Bowl.

DAY 7: CAPE TOWN - OUDTSHOORN (approx 420 kilometres)

After breakfast, we depart for Oudtshoorn and three glorious days exploring the world-renowned Garden Route. The scenic drive takes you to the ‘Ostrich Capital of the World’ in the Klein Karoo which is also home to the spectacular Cango Caves. The day is broken with lunch and wine tasting at a popular wine estate in Robertson and a visit to an ostrich farm.

Overnight at Turnberry Boutique Hotel in Oudtshoorn. Dinner served in the hotel restaurant.

DAY 8: OUDTSHOORN – KNYSNA (approx 120 kilometres)

The morning is spent on a tour of the Cango Caves. This breath-taking attraction is the largest show cave you can visit in Africa and one of the Seven Wonders of southern Africa. After Cango Caves, we depart for the magical town of Knysna leaving the Klein Karoo via the beautiful Swartberg Pass, with a lunch stop at the quirky “Kobus se Gat”. 

Book into your accommodation in Knysna and rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. You can head to the Knysna Heads to explore the peninsular headway, visit the Knysna Elephant Park (cost excluded) or you can settle in at the popular Knysna Waterfront for a delicious meal, drinks and some shopping.

DAY 9: KNYSNA - TSITSIKAMMA FOREST - NATURE’S VALLEY - PLETTENBERG BAY

After a leisurely breakfast, we depart for a magical tour of the Garden Route. First stop is a guided tour of the magnificent Tsitsikamma Forest which is renowned as the last outpost for the famous Knysna Elephants and vast tracts of indigenous forest, deep river gorges and splendid views of the Garden Route coastline and warm Indian Ocean. Other places on the map include the vibrant town of Plettenberg Bay and sleepy Nature’s Valley.

Overnight at The Graywood Hotel in Knysna. Dinner is served at the hotel restaurant.

DAY 10: KNYSNA - MOSSEL BAY - CAPE TOWN (approx 480 kilometres)

On the last day of the tour, we say goodbye to Knysna after a leisurely breakfast and make our way back to Cape Town; taking the scenic coastal route via Mossel Bay. Guests are taken on a 2-hour safari tour in Botlierskop Private Game Reserve with a professional guide in an open safari vehicle. Time permitting you can visit the Seabird and Penguin Rehabilitation Centre after lunch to see the seabirds and penguins in their care. 

Arrive back in Cape Town late afternoon. Guests are dropped off at Cape Town International Airport or a hotel/guest house in the city precinct.
