KAPAMA RIVER LODGE | KAPAMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

Kapama River Lodge is the largest safari destination in Kapama Private Game Reserve. This premier game reserve is located close to Hoedspruit and lies adjacent to the famous Greater Kruger in the northern region of South Africa. It offers modern accommodation, superb facilities and a festive social vibe; catering more for families, groups of friends and younger couples.

Accommodation ranges from ensuite luxury suites to family suites and the penultimate Royal Suites. Victoria Falls Safari Club is located on the same property as Victoria Falls Safari Lodge but offers discerning guests a superior safari experience separate from the busy main lodge. Luxury touches include a personal butler, a private deck and private club lounge for meals, High Tea and sundowners. The lodge is perched high on a rocky plateau with a magnificent view of the Zambezi National Park.

Guests staying at Victoria Falls Safari Club have access to the hugely-popular Buffalo Bar, Boma Café and MaKuwa Kuwa restaurant on the property. Victoria Falls Safari Lodge is one of the best places to go in Victoria Falls for sundowners and incredible animal sightings at a large waterhole that lies in the bushveld below the lodge. This includes watching vultures being fed at the ‘vulture restaurant’ set up in the bush.

Children 12 years and older are welcome at Victoria Falls Safari Club and are charged as adults.

COMMODORE HOTEL ǀ Accommodation in V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

The Commodore Hotel is a striking feature in the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront which lies in the heart of the Cape Town City Bowl at the historic Cape harbour. It offers luxury accommodation and world-class facilities with deluxe air-conditioned and ensuite rooms that either look onto the magnificent Table Mountain or over the beautiful Atlantic Ocean and harbour with Robben Island in the distance.

What makes the Commodore Hotel so popular is its easy access to the main attractions of Cape Town. This includes the V&A shopping & restaurant centre, the Two Oceans Aquarium, Castle of Good Hope, South African National Gallery, Long Street and Kloof Street and the Cape Town International Centre.

Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - GREATER KRUGER (approx 442 kilometres)

Travel in an air-conditioned tour vehicle from Johannesburg to a luxury safari lodge in Kapama Private Game Reserve. It’s a 5-6 hour drive with refreshment stops along the way. The game reserve is located in a vast protected wilderness region that lies adjacent to the Greater Kruger and Kruger National Park.

Arrive at the lodge in time for a light lunch. Settle into your suite and relax until it’s time to depart late afternoon after High Tea for a 3-hour sunset game drive in Kapama Game Reserve in an open safari vehicle. Dinner is served in the lodge restaurant or on the outdoor deck.

DAY 2 & 3: KAPAMA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE

Early morning wake-up for hot beverages and rusks and then we set off for a 3-hour morning game drive in Kapama Game Reserve. The game drive is in an open safari vehicle with a professional game ranger.

Return to the lodge for a late breakfast and refreshments. Relax around the lodge; lounge at the pool or treat yourself to a spa session at River Lodge Spa (for your own cost). Enjoy a light lunch on the outdoor deck. We depart late afternoon after High Tea for a 3-hour sunset game drive in Kapama Game Reserve.

Return to the lodge well after the sun has set. Dinner is served in the lodge restaurant or on the outdoor deck.

DAY 4: KAPAMA GAME RESERVE - JOHANNESBURG

Wake up early for hot beverages and rusks and then it’s time to depart for your last 3-hour game drive in Kapama Game Reserve. Return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Pack up and be ready to depart mid-morning for the return trip to Johannesburg.

On arrival in Johannesburg, you are transferred to your accommodation which is located close to OR Tambo International Airport. Relax, freshen up and enjoy dinner at the lodge restaurant at your leisure.

DAY 5: JOHANNESBURG - VICTORIA FALLS

Wake up early for breakfast. We depart for OR Tambo International Airport to catch a scheduled flight to Victoria Falls (cost of flight is not included in the tour price).

On arrival in Victoria Falls, you’re picked up and transferred to Victoria Falls Safari Club in an air-conditioned shuttle bus. Book in, freshen up and enjoy the hotel facilities before it’s time to depart late afternoon for a 4-hour sunset dinner cruise on the Zambezi River. 

The boat cruise on the Zambezi River includes a 3-course dinner and a complimentary glass of champagne. Cash bar for other drinks. Return to your lodge at about 9pm.

DAY 6: VICTORIA FALLS

Wake up early and enjoy a hearty breakfast. Depart at about 08h00 for a 2-hour guided tour of the iconic Victoria Falls. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure enjoying whichever add-on activities grab your fancy (your own cost). 

Victoria Falls has earned itself the reputation of being the “Adrenalin Capital of Africa” and offers an exciting array of head-rushing activities; from bungee jumping 100 plus metres off a railway bridge to white water rafting through the Batoka Gorge and sitting on the precipice of the mighty falls in Devil’s Pool. 

Or, you can opt to take it easy and enjoy a tour of the historic Victoria Falls Bridge and a leisurely afternoon at a spectacular restaurant that overlooks the mighty waterfall. A real treat is High Tea on Stanley’s Terrace at the Victoria Falls Hotel.

You can have dinner at the lodge restaurant or choose one of the many popular restaurants in town (your own cost).

DAY 7: VICTORIA FALLS - CAPE TOWN

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel and a few hours exploring the town of Victoria Falls. The local craft market is great for some last-minute souvenir shopping. A shuttle bus picks you up mid-morning and takes you to Victoria Falls Airport for your scheduled flight to Cape Town (some people may fly via Johannesburg depending on what flights are booked).

On arrival, you are transferred to your hotel in Cape Town. Dinner at the hotel restaurant or eat out at a popular restaurant at the V&A Waterfront (your own cost).

DAY 8: FULL-DAY CAPE PENINSULA TOUR

Early breakfast at the hotel restaurant and then we depart for a full-day Cape Peninsula Tour. Take in the highlights of the cosmopolitan Cape Town City Bowl, the vibrant coastal towns of the Atlantic Seaboard and continue on a scenic drive to Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve at the southernmost tip of the Peninsula. You can take a funicular ride or walk to the legendary Cape Point. 

Spend time exploring Simon’s Town, penguin watch at Boulders Beach (optional and own cost) and drive through the quaint seaside towns that hug False Bay. The day ends with a leisurely stroll through the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Pop into Kirstenbosch Tea Room for a delicious High Tea (own cost) before we head back to your hotel at the V&A Waterfront. Dine in or eat out at a popular restaurant at the V&A Waterfront (your own cost).

DAY 9: HALF-DAY CAPE WINELANDS TOUR

Early breakfast at the hotel restaurant and then we depart for a half-day Cape Winelands Tour where you’re taken on an incredibly scenic route to the historic town of Stellenbosch in the heart of the Cape Winelands. 

After ashort tour of Stellenbosch to show you historic landmarks and the beautiful heritage buildings, we drive to the first of two premier wine estates. After a tour of the cellars, join a representative of the estate to sample their finest wines which are paired with delicious local cheese.

We head off to the second wine estate for the same delicious wine tasting experience. You can buy your favourite vintage at the farm’s shop before leaving for the drive back to Cape Town. Dine in or eat out at a popular restaurant in the area (your own cost).
