Itinerary

DAY 1: JOHANNESBURG - SOWETO

Guests are collected from OR Tambo International Airport and taken to accommodation just a short drive from the airport. Once settled in and freshened up; we depart for an afternoon tour of Soweto, South Africa’s largest urban settlement and the home of the great Nelson Mandela. The tour takes you to the famous Vilakazi Street and historic sites that commemorate the people of Soweto’s fight for freedom and equality.

Overnight at Safari Club SA. Guests dine at the guest lodge restaurant.

DAY 2: JOHANNESBURG - BALULE ǀ GREATER KRUGER (approx 460 kilometres)

After breakfast, we depart for Balule Private Nature Reserve in the Greater Kruger National Park. The 5-6 hour drive takes you from the wide-open spaces of the Highveld, down the escarpment and through the lush Lowveld valley to the northern region of Mpumalanga. We stop along the way for lunch and arrive in Balule early afternoon.

Depart late afternoon for your first game drive in the beautiful nature reserve; expect to see the Big 5 and an incredible array of antelope, predators and birdlife. Return to your lodge after sundowners.

Overnight in Tremisana Game Lodge. Guests dine under the stars at the Marula Tree Boma situated deep in the bushveld.

DAY 3: BALULE ǀ GREATER KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

The day starts with hot beverages and rusks as the sun rises over the Greater Kruger National Park. Guests are driven to a remote area in the Balule Game Reserve for 4-hour guided bush walk in the company of a professional game ranger.

Return to Tremisana Lodge for a late breakfast. Enjoy a wonderful relaxing day until it’s time for High Tea and the late afternoon game drive in Balule Private Nature Reserve.

Overnight in Tremisana Game Lodge. Guests dine under the stars at the Marula Tree Boma situated deep in the bushveld.

DAY 4: BALULE - KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

Early wake-up, hot beverages and a delicious breakfast before departing for a safari tour of the Kruger National Park. Guests travel in an open safari vehicle in the company of a professional game ranger. A full day is spent exploring the central-eastern region of the Kruger Park which is renowned for its outstanding biodiversity and Big 5 wildlife sightings.

Lunch at a popular Kruger Park rest camp and some time to relax before departing for the return drive through the Kruger Park to Motlala Game Reserve. 

Overnight at Tremisana Game Lodge. Guests dine under the stars at the Marula Tree Boma.

DAY 5: BALULE - JOHANNESBURG - CAPE TOWN (2-hour flight not included in the tour rate)

Wake up early for a guided bush walk around the game lodge with a professional game ranger. Return for breakfast, pack up and be ready to depart mid-morning for the drive back to Johannesburg. Guests are taken direct to OR Tambo International Airport to catch a flight to Cape Town. Arrive in the Mother City late afternoon, in time for sundowners at the V&A Waterfront. 

Overnight at the Commodore Hotel in the Cape City Bowl. Dine in or eat out at the V&A Waterfront.

DAY 6: CAPE TOWN

Today, you can do anything. Ask MoAfrika Tours to book you a guided tour of the City Bowl which includes the South African National Art Gallery, the Company’s Gardens, Long Street and Kloof Street and the historic Cape Town Harbour. Otherwise, you can use the official hop-on/hop-off City Sightseers bus. Another option is take the cable car to the top of Table Mountain or catch a shuttle ferry to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for 27 years.

DAY 7: CAPE PENINSULA TOUR

Today, you can do anything. Otherwise, you can use the official hop-on/hop-off City Sightseers bus. DAY 8: CAPE WINELANDS TOUR

There’s one reason to visit the Cape and that’s to sample some of the finest wines in the world on a full-day tour of the Cape Winelands. Enjoy three wine tastings at award-winning wine farms, a cheese tasting and cellar tour in Stellenbosch and Paarl, followed by a leisurely tram ride through the Franschhoek wine valley. You can also visit the Drakenstein Prison, formerly known as Victor Verster Prison, where Nelson Mandela spent the last days of his captivity.

DAY 9: CAPE TOWN

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and then it’s time to say goodbye to the Mother City. We depart for Cape Town International Airport mid-morning for the return flight to Johannesburg. Please check arrival times before confirming international flights out of Johannesburg.
