Description:

The tour ends with idyllic days spent at safari lodges located on the banks of the four major rivers in Southern Africa.

The beauty of this tour is it’s a self-drive option, so you have the freedom and flexibility to wander off the beaten path to some extent while keeping to the daily itinerary. Your choice of vehicle for the self-drive tour is a Renault Duster 4×4 SUV or a Toyota 4×4 Double Cab; both perfectly suitable for the harsh desert environment. You can also opt to travel with a driver/guide for an additional cost.

Kalahari Anib Lodge

55 rooms, sleeping up to 120 guests

Kalahari Anib Lodge is a lush oasis in the midst of the red dunes of the Kalahari Desert, located about 30 kilometers northeast of Mariental. It’s the perfect stopover if you’re travelling to the popular tourist destinations in southern Namibia.

Children of all ages are welcome at Kalahari Anib Lodge.

Namib Desert Lodge

65 rooms, sleeping up to 130 adult guests

Namib Desert Lodge is situated 60 kilometres north of Sesriem. It’s the ideal place to stay in Namibia if you’re visiting Sossusvlei, Dead Vlei, the Sesriem Canyons and Namib Naukluft Park. Surrounded by towering red sand dunes, Namib Desert Lodge is illuminated in gold as the sun rises and sets in the Namib Desert.

The Delight Hotel

Damara Mopane Lodge

55 bungalows, sleeping up to 110 adult guests

Damara Mopane Lodge is situated close to Khorixas which lies enroute to the famous rock paintings and engravings in the Twyfelfontein area. It boasts modern architecture, constructed in a semi-circle of interlinking pathways that lead to a lavish swimming pool and entertainment area at its centre.

The spacious ensuite chalets are intricately decorated and fully equipped for comfort and convenience. They each have their own vegetable garden, complete with bright yellow sunflowers and crazy scarecrows. The whole lodge exudes a festive desert spirit, reflecting the warmth and rich culture of the Damaraland.

Children of all ages are welcome at Damara Mopane Lodge.

Etosha Safari Lodge

61 double rooms and family rooms, sleeping up to 150 adult guests

Etosha Safari Lodge is located 10 kilometres from Anderson Gate, making it the ideal location for a safari tour of Etosha National Park. It sits perched on a hilltop offering panoramic views of the vast savanna plains.

Each spacious ensuite chalet is fully equipped for comfort and convenience, including air-conditioning and mosquito nets. At the main lodge, facilities include a great restaurant and bar area which leads out onto a stunning wooden deck. It’s the ideal spot for sundowners.

Hakusembe River Lodge

10 chalets, sleeping up to 20 adult guests

Housemen River Lodge is located on the south bank of the Okavango River, about 12 kilometres west of Rundu. It’s the perfect place to stay in Namibia for travellers on their way to the Caprivi Strip and the Victoria Falls.

The ensuite chalets are tucked away in lush vegetation, offering panoramic views of the famous river and the surrounding bushveld. Each chalet is airconditioned and fully equipped for comfort and convenience.

Daily excursions revolve around game viewing, birdwatching, nature walks, cruising on the Hakusembe River Queen and tiger fishing on the Okavango River.

Namushasha River Lodge

24 chalets, sleeping up to 50 guests

Namushasha River Lodge is located 24 kilometres south of Kongola which is a small settlement in Namibia’s Caprivi Strip which lies within the Zambezi Region. There’s no electricity in the area so Namushasha River Lodge operates as an authentic eco-lodge.

The ensuite chalets are situated along the banks of the Kwando River with panoramic views of the surrounding bushveld and excellent game viewing from the comfort of your deck. They’re fully equipped for comfort and convenience, with twin beds, mosquito nets, air-conditioning and a private deck. Family chalets with interleading rooms are available on request.

Activities at Namushasha River Lodge revolve around enjoying the wonders of the Kwando River; including birding, fishing, game viewing, boat cruises and guided nature walks. The Kwando River winds through the Caprivi Strip in northwest Namibia, rising from the central Angolan highlands and forming a boundary between Namibia, Zambia and Angola.

Chobe River Camp

20 tented chalets, sleeping up to 50 guests

Chobe River Camp is located 4 kilometres from the Ngoma border post between Botswana and Namibia. It lies on the magical Chobe River with panoramic views of the surrounding flood plains. It’s renowned for offering travellers exceptional game viewing, birding and fishing excursions.

The ensuite chalets blend in seamlessly with the natural bushveld, make from indigenous Mopane timber and canvas. Fully equipped for comfort and convenience, the eco-friendly chalets offer an authentic safari experience as there’s no electricity in the area and everything is run off solar power. Wi-Fi is available in the main lodge.

Zambezi Mubala Lodge

21 rooms, sleeping up to 50 guests

Zambezi Mubala Lodge is an upscale safari lodge located on the banks of the Zambezi River in Namibia, some 40 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo. It’s a haven for wildlife, birding, photography and fishing enthusiasts with easy access to one of Africa’s most magnificent rivers.

Glorious sunset boat cruises on the Zambezi River are the best part of your day and specialised boat cruises for photography, birding and fishing enthusiasts are hugely popular at Zambezi Mubala Lodge.

The eco-friendly safari lodge offers day trips to the iconic Victoria Falls as well as Chobe National Park in Botswana and other popular national parks within easy driving distance. Zambezi Mubala Lodge is probably best known for its outstanding colony of Carmine bee-eaters which is one of the largest in southern Africa.

Zambezi Mubala Lodge has 18 spacious chalets and 2 family chalets, all ensuite, air-conditioned and fully equipped for comfort and convenience. There are also 6 tented chalets with ensuite bathrooms. Each has its own private deck with panoramic views of the Zambezi River and surrounding natural bushveld.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Windhoek – Etosha National Park (Approximately 400 Kilometres)

Set off from Windhoek and travel northwards to the Etosha National Park. Stops along the way include Okahandja, the Omatakos, Otjiwarongo and Outjo. Arrive at your accommodation late afternoon; freshen up and relax before dinner is served under the stars around the lodge boma.

Day 2: Etosha National Park

Situated close to Etosha National Park, the lodge you stay out is the perfect base from which to explore Namibia’s most famous tourist attraction. You can enjoy a full day
in Etosha or return to Etosha Safari Camp for lunch and an afternoon siesta or to lie around the pool.

Day 3: Etosha National Park

Enjoy another glorious day in Etosha National Park visiting areas you’ve not had a chance to explore yet. A highlight of Etosha is its salt-crusted pans which attract hordes of flamingoes at certain times of the year.

Day 4: Etosha National Park – Rundu/ Kwando River (Approximately 400 Kilometres)

After breakfast, drive northeast to your accommodation on the banks of the Kavango River, otherwise known as the Okavango River. Stop at Outjo to refuel and pick up drinks and snacks. You can make a detour to visit the Hoba Meteorites which are located between Otavi and Grootfontein.

Arrive at your destination mid-afternoon. You can relax at your lodge or go game viewing on a boat cruise on the river.

Day 5: Okavango River -Zambezi Region/Kwando River (Approximately 380 Kilometres)

The drive today takes you eastward towards the northeaster corner of Namibia. Previously known as the Caprivi Strip, it’s now known as the Zambezi Region. Bwabwata National Park runs form the Okavango River to the Kwando River and is known for its spectacular scenery and outstanding fauna and flora.

Day 6: Kwando River

The day is spent enjoying any one or more of a selection of activities on offer; including a leisurely boat cruise, guided nature walks or fishing excursions as well as a safari tour of Bwabwata National Park, Mudumu National Park or Nkasa Rupara National Park.

Day 7: Kwando River – Chobe River (Approximately 200 Kilometres)

After breakfast, depart for your overnight accommodation on the Chobe River in the Zambezi Region. The lodge lies a short 4-kilometre drive from the border gate between Namibia and Botswana. Arrive late afternoon, settle in and enjoy a relaxing evening on the large wooden deck of the lodge watching game and birds on the magical Chobe River.

Day 8: Chobe River

Enjoy a wonderful day at Chobe River Camp and all the activities of offer. Same again, this includes game viewing, boat cruise or canoe safari, photographic or fishing excursions and guided nature walks along the bank of the Chobe River. The day isn’t long enough for all there is to do in the area. You have the choice of a half-day boat cruise (morning or afternoon departures) or a full-day cruise.

Day 9: Chobe River – Zambezi River (Approximately 80 Kilometres)

After breakfast, depart for Zambezi Mubala Lodge which is located on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River; some 40 kilometres east of Katima Mulilo. It’s a first-class destination for game viewing, birding, fishing, photography and canoe or boat cruises. End your day with a stunning sundowner cruise after an afternoon spent relaxing in your chalet or lazing around the lodge swimming pool.

Day 10: Zambezi River

No need to rush off; enjoy a wonderful day at Zambezi Mubala Lodge enjoy all the activities and excursions on offer. After many long hours driving on this safari tour, you might opt to spend a lazy day at the lodge around the pool and enjoying colourful cocktails from the bar.

Day 11: Zambezi River -Okavango River (Approximately 520 Kilometres)

Wake up early and depart for Hakusembe River Lodge. This is the perfect stopover to break the long drive back through the Zambezi Region to Windhoek. Plan your timing right and you’ll arrive at the lodge with enough time to spare for a wonderful sundowner boat cruise on the Okavango River.

Day 12: Okvango River – Windhoek (Approximately 600 Kilometres)

All good things come to an end and it’s time to head back to Windhoek. It’s a long 8-hour drive and you get into Windhoek late in the afternoon. It’s recommended that you book a hotel or guest lodge in Windhoek and spend the night in the capital city. Schedule your flight for the following day if possible, just in case there’s a delay enroute back to the city and you miss your flight.
