Our overnight safari tour takes you to the beautiful coastal town of Little Brak River and inland to Oudtshoorn where you’ll be taken on Big 3 game drives in open safari vehicles and a beautiful guided bush walk.
Botlierskop and Buffelsdrift private game reserves are located in the Garden Route which is one of the most scenic regions in the Western Cape. Guests spend the night at lovely accommodation in Oudtshoorn which is the “Ostrich Capital of the World” and can enjoy an authentic Karoo meal on a night out in the town.
Accommodation will either be provided at 88 Baron van Rheede or Oakdene Guesthouses.
Oakdene Guest House was originally built in 1853 and is one of the oldest dwellings in Oudtshoorn. Preserved in its original condition, it is now a treasure trove of lovingly restored history and fine architecture.
This quaint Victorian home is located in the heart of Oudtshoorn and surrounded by ancient oak trees. Original Victorian trellis work and distinct watering gullies still decorates the front of the house with its 6 newly styled rooms.
You can rely on air conditioning for hot summer days and electric blankets for chilly winter evenings, enjoy a stroll through the manicured garden, or unwind poolside.
88 Baron van Reede Guest house is a 150 year old sandstone house, located in Oudtshoorn’s city centre and sports an outdoor pool, barbecue facilities, and free Wi-Fi.
You can enjoy air-conditioning, private bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, and a television in your room – each with a private entrance.
The guesthouse is located a short walk away from the central Baron van Reede Street and is located near all the best restaurants in town.
Guests are collected from a pre-arranged pick-up point in Cape Town. We set off along the famous Route 62 and wind our way through the Cape Winelands region to the Garden Route District. It’s a 4 to 6-hour journey with leisure breaks along the route.
Our first stop is Botlierskop Private Game Reserve which lies on the outskirts of Little Brak River. The town lies on the rugged coastline between Mossel Bay and George. Hop onto a 4×4 open safari vehicle and enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the game reserve with an experienced game ranger.
The 4 200-hectare game reserve is in a malaria-free area and is home to lion, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, mountain zebra, eland and black impala. Botlierskop is flanked by the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and the sparkling Indian Ocean.
The game drive is interupted for a leisurely bush walk. Your game ranger will share his vast knowledge of the coastal fauna and flora and get you closer to animal sightings.
The day ends with a scenic drive inland from Klein Brak River to Oudtshoorn. Settle into your accommodation and then treat yourself to an authentic Karoo meal at one of the popular restaurants in town.
Overnight at 88 Baron Van Rheede or Oakdene in Oudtshoorn. No meals included.
Activities included:
Wake up early for hot beverages and rusks before departing on a 2-hour sunrise game drive in an open safari vehicle. You’ll explore Buffelsdrift private game reserve which is home to an array of animals including three of the Big 5 (elephants, rhino and Cape buffalo).
Buffelsdrift is located 7 kilometres from Oudtshoorn and is surrounded by the magical Swartberg Mountains.
For something exciting, you can join a guided educational walk with three orphaned elephants (not included in the rate). Bulelo, Jabari and Malaika were saved after their parents were killed by poaches and hand-reared at Buffelsdrift. It’s a chance to interact with these gentle giants and learn more about them on a leisurely stroll around the dam.
We take the scenic Route 62 for the return journey to Cape Town. We stop en route for a refreshment break and arrive back in the city between 17h00 and 18h00.
