This luxurious overnight safari tour takes you to the beautiful coastal town of Little Brak River and inland to Oudtshoorn where you’ll be taken on Big 3 game drives in open safari vehicles and a beautiful guided bush walk.
Botlierskop and Buffelsdrift private game reserves are located in the Garden Route which is one of the most scenic regions in the Western Cape. Guests spend the night at lovely accommodation in Oudtshoorn which is the “Ostrich Capital of the World” and can enjoy an authentic Karoo meal on a night out in the town.
Accommodation is subject to availability, either at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, Mooiplaas or Surval Boutique Olive Estate.
Buffelsdrift Game Lodge’s luxury tented accommodation offers a decadent ‘glamping’ safari experience in the semi-arid Little Karoo. It’s home to elephant, buffalo, an array of antelope, plains game and lightweight predators which means it’s also safe for guided walking safaris.
Guests stay in luxury tented suites which overlook a massive waterhole and are fully-equipped for luxurious comfort, including a private deck and outdoor shower. The property boasts an excellent restaurant and bar area with a panoramic view of the bushveld, as well as a sparkling pool and spa treatment centre.
Mooiplaas, which translates to “beautiful farm” in Afrikaans, is a contemporary guest house that embodies farm-house hospitality. This family-run resort has everything a traveller could want—a swimming pool, an on-site spa, a herd of ostriches outside the front and back, and the opportunity to get away from it all in the great sky country of Africa. Country hospitality is abundant in the lively, communal eating room, and the farm-style cuisine features a delectable assortment of regional meats and sweets.
The Mooiplaas crew will not only take you behind the scenes to see the workings of contemporary ostrich husbandry, but if your time is correct, you may even get to hold a newborn. Anticipate their stargazing sessions every night, which unravel the mysteries veiled in the local legend.
Alternatively, you may experience Oudtshoorn’s sights and sounds from the opulent Surval Boutique Olive Estate. This working farm offers exceptional elegance and comfort, as well as artistically decorated rooms with an original African flavour, making it the ideal spot to escape into tranquil pleasure. Delicious breakfasts are provided on the deck with a view of the Schoemanshoek Valley, which is at the base of the Swartberg Mountains. There is nothing like a lapa by the pool to cap off the day. Intimate Su Casa Restaurant serves innovative modern food paired with fine wines; cosy up by a fire in the lounges or bar area.
Guests are collected from a pre-arranged pick-up point in Cape Town. We set off along the famous Route 62 and wind our way through the Cape Winelands region to the Garden Route District. It’s a 4 to 6-hour journey with leisure breaks along the route.
Our first stop is Botlierskop Private Game Reserve which lies on the outskirts of Little Brak River. The town lies on the rugged coastline between Mossel Bay and George. Hop onto a 4×4 open safari vehicle and enjoy a 2-hour guided tour of the game reserve with an experienced game ranger.
The 4 200-hectare game reserve is in a malaria-free area and is home to lion, buffalo, rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, mountain zebra, eland and black impala. Botlierskop is flanked by the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains and the sparkling Indian Ocean.
The game drive is broken for a leisurely bush walk. Your game ranger will share his vast knowledge of the coastal fauna and flora and get you closer to animal sightings.
The day ends with a scenic drive inland from Klein Brak River to Oudtshoorn. Settle into your accommodation and then treat yourself to an authentic Karoo meal at one of the popular restaurants in town.
