OKAUKUEJO CAMPSITE ǀ Accommodation in Etosha National Park, Namibia
Okaukuejo is the oldest tourist camp in Etosha. It functions as the administrative center of the park and houses the Etosha Ecological Institute.
Located 17 km from the park’s southern entrance, Okaukuejo Campsite is situated in the western section of the Etosha Pan and overlooks a permanent watering hole. It offers some of the best wildlife sightings in Africa including lion, rhino, elephant and antelope which are drawn to the water to drink. At night, the waterhole is floodlit, allowing you to view the fascinating interactions of Namibia’s nocturnal wildlife.
In fact, the waterhole hosts continuous wildlife activity from dawn to dusk and late into the night. In the early evenings you will find regular sightings of black rhino, elephant and lion drinking at the water together.
The camp has a number of convenient facilities, including a restaurant, bar, shop, swimming pool, kiosk and camp sites.
We collect you from your Windhoek accommodation and proceed north, travelling through Namibia’s agricultural reaches where we take the opportunity to explore some of the interesting and charming villages enroute to Etosha.
By mid-afternoon, we arrive at Anderson’s Gate where we enter Etosha National Park. We take a scenic game drive to Okaukuejo which is Etosha’s main rest camp and resort. We set up camp after we’ve checked in.
Enjoy a refreshing evening meal and drinks and enjoy your first taste of wildlife sightings at the large waterhole which is situated within easy walking distance of the camp. At night, the waterhole is floodlit, making it easy to observe the captivating nocturnal comings-and-goings of the wildlife which are drawn to the water.
In fact, the waterhole is touted as offering the best game viewing opportunities in Africa, bringing you close-range sightings of some of the continent’s most iconic animals all congregated at the water, including black rhino, elephant, lion and a wide range of antelope. Sightings of these animals are especially prolific during Namibia’s cool dry season.

We stop at several waterholes to take in the superb views of the expansive and impressive Etosha Pan. This safari is usually filled with wonderful sightings of wildlife not usually spotted in the Okaukuejo section of the park.
In the evening, we return to Okaukuejo Campsite and enjoy a delicious star-lit meal. Enjoy a few more hours of game viewing watching over the flood-lit waterhole in front of the camp.

This charming destination served as the region’s harbour for many years, set between the arresting beauty of the wide yellow desert and the blue sea.
