Umkumbe Safari Lodge is located on the banks of the Sand River in the world-renowned Sabi Sand Game Reserve. You may see the “big five” in one of the nicest settings in all of southern Africa if you travel to Umkumbe.
Because it is run by its owners, your 3-day stay at Umkumbe Safari Lodge will be genuine, homey, and authentically South African. The seasonal Sand River, visible from most of the ten chalets and rooms, is home to a variety of wildlife, including hippos, buffalo, antelope, and elephants. The traditional boma, where hearty South African meals are served, is only one of the many amenities available to guests, along with a swimming pool, lounge, bar, and eating area.
The reserve provides a haven for many species, including the “big five” (elephant, rhino, lion, leopard, and buffalo), as well as cheetah, wild dog, birds, and native vegetation. Though there is no fencing around the lodge, children can play safely because elephants and other large animals are kept away by a trip wire. However, you may count on seeing the occasional warthog, antelope, or small mammal.
All of the lodge’s amenities revolve around the seasonal Sand River with daily sightings of various animals grazing in the riverbed.
The lodge can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests in 10 chalets or rooms, the majority of which have a small veranda with camping chairs and views of the river, while others have views of a small plains area with a watering hole.
The accommodation is comfortable and ideal for those looking for a good value. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and are air-conditioned. Some rooms are designed to accommodate families or small groups of three friends by providing separate but connected rooms.

You will be picked up in Johannesburg and driven east along the N4 motorway through the Gauteng and Mpumalanga Highvelds, down the escarpment, and into the scenic Lowveld to the reserve within the Greater Kruger National Park.
The drive will take about six hours, with stops for refreshments. After arriving at the lodge around midday, you will have time to freshen up and relax before embarking on your first afternoon game drive in the reserve in an open safari vehicle.
If the weather permits, a delicious starlit dinner will be served at the lodge.
You spend the night in luxury at Umkumbe Safari Lodge, and your package includes lunch and dinner.
You will be woken up early and have just enough time for a hot beverage and rusks before departing on a 3-hour game drive to see the sun rise in the east.
After brunch, you can spend the rest of the day at the pool or lazing around before heading out for an afternoon game drive with an expert guide, returning in time for another dinner under the stars.
