Established in 1999, the Garden Route Game Farm is located in what was the first privately-owned game reserve in the Western Cape. The malaria-free safari destination is home to the Big 5 and an abundance of general game and birds.

Guests have the choice of luxury suites, rooms and private chalets. The African-themed décor is elegant, fresh and contemporary and each spacious unit is fully-equipped for comfort and convenience. Private decks with outdoor showers and plunge pools offer guests panoramic views of the breathtaking bushveld surrounds.


Day 1: Cape Town - Oudtshoorn (440 Kilometres)

Guests are collected in Cape Town early morning (6am) and driven to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world in the Little Karoo. The scenic drive follows the world-famous Route 62 which is also known as the ‘longest wine route in the world’. Stop for lunch along the way.

The afternoon in Oudtshoorn is spent exploring the magical Cango Caves which is an intricate cave system located in Precambrian limestones at the foothills of the Swartberg mountains. This is followed by a visit to a working ostrich farm.

Overnight at accommodation in Oudtshoorn. Enjoy an authentic Karoo meal at the lodge restaurant.

Day 2: Oudtshoorn - Wilderness - Plettenberg Bay - Storms River (215 Kilometres)

Wake up early for breakfast. Depart for the Wilderness area, travelling over the historic Swartberg Mountain Pass and stopping at the scenic ‘Map of Africa’ lookout point. It’s a viewpoint that gives you a bird’s-eye perspective of the Kaaimans River which makes an unmistakable outline of the African continent as it winds through the lush forest valley.

Arrive in Knysna mid-day. The afternoon is spent visiting the Knysna Heads and the famous Knysna Waterfront and Knysna Quays. Mid-afternoon depart for Storms River, travelling via Plettenberg Bay.

Overnight at accommodation in Storms River which is the ‘Adventure capital of the Garden Route. Dinner served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 3: Storms River - Addo Elephant National Park - Jeffrey’s Bay (100 Kilometres)

After breakfast, depart for a hike in the glorious Tsitsikamma National Park, ending at the Storms River Mouth. You’ll walk across the Hanging Bridge and can swim in the warm Indian Ocean. Lunch mid-day, before departing for Addo Elephant National Park and enjoying a late-afternoon game drive.

Addo Elephant National Park is the third-largest national park in South Africa. The original section was founded in 1931 to provide a sanctuary for the 11 remaining elephants in the wilderness area.

Overnight at accommodation in Jeffrey’s Bay, the ‘Surfing Capital of South Africa’. Dinner served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 4: Jeffrey’s Bay - Mossell Bay (300 Kilometres)

After breakfast, depart for the Garden Route Game Lodge which is located close to the small town of Albertinia. The morning drive is broken with a stopover at Bloukrans Bridge Bungy. It’s one of the world's highest commercial bridge bungy jump at 216 metres (709 ft) above the Bloukrans River. 

For an extra fee, you can bungee jump off the Bloukrans Bridge. Bookings are essential so plan ahead.

The afternoon is spent on a safari tour of the private game reserve located close to the town of Albertinia. It’s home to the Big 5 and an incredible array of fauna and flora.

Overnight at accommodation in Mossell Bay. Dinner served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 5: Mossell Bay - Hermanus - Betty’s Bay - Cape Town

If you stayed overnight in Mossell Bay, you have the morning free to explore the beautiful coastal town. If you stayed at Garden Route Game Lodge, you’ll wake up early for a sunrise game drive.

Late morning, depart for Hermanus. This popular coastal town on the Garden Route is famous for whale-watching, wonderful cliffside walkways and its vibrant tourist vibe. 

For an extra fee, you have the option of taking a boat cruise to see whales if they’re in the bay.

Leaving Hermanus mid-afternoon for the return trip to Cape Town, there’s time for a stopover at Stony Point in Betty’s Bay to see its quirky colony of African penguins. Arrive in Cape Town late afternoon, travelling over a mountain pass with a gorgeous view over False Bay.
