The ‘sea and safari’ section of the tour takes you to splendid beaches and gorgeous coastal attractions as well as Addo Elephant National Park for a Big 5 safari tour.

The second half of the tour introduces you to the scenic wonders of the Cape Winelands with gorgeous days spent exploring the towns of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek and delicious wine and food pairings. The tour ends at the southernmost tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas where the Indian and Atlantic oceans officially meet, and a leisurely drive home along one of the most spectacular coastal roads in the country.

DAY 1: CAPE TOWN - SEDGEFIELD (approx 460 kms)

Guests are collected from a pre-arranged pick-up point in Cape Town. Your journey to the scenic coastal towns of the Garden Route winds its way through mountain passes and past rolling farmlands with a quick stop at Riviersonderend to stock up on snacks and drinks. 

You continue on to the lush coastal town of Wilderness where you’ll spend the afternoon paddling on a beautiful river in the Wilderness National Park. Your day ends in the magical town of Knysna.

DAY 2: SEDGEFIELD - JEFFREY’S BAY (approx 218 kms)

Enjoy a hearty breakfast; then it’s time to explore this stunning stretch of coastline as we make our way to the “Surfing Capital of the World”. Included in the itinerary is a leisurely walk to the imposing Knysna Heads which is a pair of rocky sandstone cliffs that stand where the Knysna Lagoon and Indian Ocean meet; and 2-hours exploring the magnificent Tsitsikamma National Park. 

Take a walk through the dense indigenous forest and come out at the striking 77-metre suspension bridge that hangs dramatically over the Storms River Mouth.

Enroute to Jeffreys Bay, we stop at Bloukrans Bridge which is a famous stop-off for adrenalin junkies. Here you have the option to experience the world’s highest commercial bungy jump which is a 216 metre fall into the gorgeous riverine gorge below, or you can zipline over the gushing river. 

Continue on to ‘Surf City’ where you can relax at the surf-side restaurant or grab a few hours on the beach before the sun sets.

Wake up before the sun rises and be ready to depart for an exciting safari tour of Addo Elephant National Park. It’s the third-largest national park in South Africa and a protected sanctuary for over 500 endangered African elephants. 

Addo is the only place in the world where you’ll find the Big 7 which includes elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion and leopard as well as the great white shark and southern right whale. The last two are found in Addo’s protected marine reserve.

Return to Jeffreys Bay for an afternoon of leisure; explore the quaint surfing shops in town or head to the beach. Optional activities include surfing and sandboarding lessons or horse riding on the beach. Eat out in town or stay in and enjoy a delicious meal at the lodge’s seaside restaurant.

DAY 4: JEFFREY’S BAY - OUDTSHOORN (approx 290 kms)

After a good breakfast, we leave the stunning eastern coastline of South Africa and head inland to the Little Karoo. Winding our way through the spectacular Langkloof Mountains, we arrive in Oudtshoorn which is known as the “Ostrich Capital of the World”. Our first stop is at a working ostrich farm where you meet these quirky big-eyed birds and get a glimpse into the ostrich farming industry. 

Next stop is the world-renowned Cango Caves. This is an intricate system of underground limestone chambers which are renowned for their striking drip-formation stalactites and stalagmites. You can opt for the leisurely heritage tour or the more challenging adventure tour which sees you on your hands and knees crawling through a maze of tunnels and chimneys.

Afterwards, you can carry on the fun with an optional 4x4 safari tour of a private game reserve in Buffelsdrift which lies at the foothills of the magical Swartberg Mountain or you can relax back at your accommodation. Dine out in town and sample the Karoo’s famous cuisine or stay in and enjoy one of the best braais (barbeques) in the country; sample mouthwatering Karoo lamb or ostrich steaks.

You have the choice of waking up early for a leisurely stroll in the Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve and interacting with three hand-reared orphaned elephants; or you can sleep in and have a more leisurely start to the day.

Then it’s time to hit Route 62 which is known as the “Longest Wine Route in the World”. The route is modelled on the famous American Route 66 but with an emphasis on wine and delicious food. Our first stop is at Boplaas which is a family-run wine estate that’s renowned for its award-winning wines and port. 

Spend time in the Boplaas wine tasting room and enjoy a meal at a restaurant in town before it’s time to depart for the historic town of Stellenbosch which lies in the heart of the Cape Winelands. Your guide will give you a scenic tour of the town and an insight into its incredible cultural heritage.

Make sure you have a good breakfast because today we visit two exceptional wine farms where you’ll sample their award-winning wines. Before we leave Stellenbosch, we pay a quick visit to a local home in Kayamandi. You’ll have a chance to taste a selection of authentic Xhosa meals and get a glimpse into the life of the vibrant community.

The first stop on our tour of the Cape Winelands is the famous Simonsig Wine Estate. It’s one of the oldest wine estates in the Cape and intricately linked to the beginnings of wine production in South Africa. Enjoy tasting some of Simonsig’s finest sparkling wine before venturing on to La Bri Wine Estate in the picturesque valley of Franschhoek for wine and chocolate or biltong pairing.

You’ll be hungry by now which is the perfect time to stroll through the charming main street of Franschhoek and take your pick of the finest restaurants and cafés in the Cape. Franschhoek is known as the ‘Culinary Capital of South Africa’ and is also well known for its art galleries, stylish shops and rich French Huguenot heritage.

After a day of fine wine and food, we make our way to Cape Agulhas which is the southernmost tip of Africa and where the Indian and Atlantic oceans officially meet. The day ends with a visit to the point that marks the ‘Tip of Africa’ and the iconic working lighthouse and a nearby shipwreck.

After a leisurely breakfast, we depart for the vibrant town of Hermanus which is famous for whale watching, cliffside walks and its colourful street market. There’s no rush to get back to Cape Town so you can join a whale cruise if its whale-watching season, take a long stroll along the craggy coastal cliffs, spend time shopping for souvenirs or relax at one of the many popular sea-facing restaurants.

The return journey home takes you via Stony Point in Betty’s Bay where you get a chance to see one of the largest successful breeding colonies of African penguins in the world. The slow drive back to Cape Town takes you along the breathtaking Clarence Pass with a panoramic view of the glistening Atlantic Ocean.
