Namibia Budget Holiday Packages

With its towering dunes, lengthy, untamed coastline, and first-rate tourist infrastructure, Namibia offers breathtaking desert and seascape panoramas.

Its good road system and large number of well-equipped camping areas make it perfect for self-sufficient travellers. But the distances are long, the lodges are pricey, and the expenses can add up fast. Transportation and lodging are the main areas to cut costs.

We have compiled a comprehensive guide on everything you need to prepare for your Namibia Budget Holiday.

Beautiful, Breathtaking Namibia

The country of Namibia is truly remarkable; it is breathtaking, magical, and shrouded in mystery. Nowhere else in Africa can you discover larger, clearer sky or more breathtaking natural scenery.

The huge and lonely Skeleton Coast, which is dotted with shipwrecks caused by the violent waves. It may seem unending and unfriendly, but it is home to plants and animals that have adapted to extreme conditions.

Inland, you’ll find the dramatic Damaraland, home to the endangered desert elephant and rhino, and at Sossusvlei, a must-visit iconic location in Namibia, you can’t miss the opportunity to scale the tallest sand dunes. On your bucket list should also be the world-renown Etosha National Park salt flats, which are home to an abundance of wildlife, and the southern Fish River Canyon.

What to Expect on a Namibia Budget Holiday

Go off the beaten path and have an amazing affordable vacation in Namibia, where a huge swathe of unspoiled nature awaits you. Discovering this fascinating land will make you feel like the last person on Earth— there are only 2.8 people per square kilometre.

See a landscape free of the commotion of regular tourist spots by venturing outside the towns and national parks. Savour the independence of deserted roads that stretches to the horizon, where you rarely come across other tourists and the peace of the wild surrounds you.

Namibia has a wide range of activities to satiate the appetite of any explorer. Take a walk through the magnificent Fish River Canyon, which is second only in size to the Grand Canyon, or go on an exhilarating quad riding adventure to battle the endless sand dunes. Take a hot air balloon ride over the bizarre Sossusvlei terrain at sunrise for a more leisurely experience, or take to the sky for a bird’s eye view of the striking Skeleton Coast.

Namibia is known for its safety despite its harsh landscape; since obtaining independence in 1990, the country has enjoyed decades of political stability and sound government. Investing in infrastructure and education, and pledging to promote reconciliation, Namibia is among the safest countries in Africa, welcoming visitors with open arms.

Namibia is home to 650 bird species, 80 large mammal species, and 240 reptile species. Get ready to be astounded by the tremendous biodiversity. Namibia provides unmatched chances for wildlife aficionados to witness rare species in their native habitat, from the abundant animals of the Etosha National Park to the isolated solitude of the Kaokoveld.

Take a budget-friendly trip to Namibia and experience a world of exploration, peace, and breathtaking scenery.

What to Pack for Your Budget Break-Away in Namibia

To help you get ready for your budget safari in this breathtaking nation, we have compiled the following packing list:

Must-Have items for a Namibia safari

  • Comfortable, closed-toe boots or walking shoes are a must for exploring the varied landscape of Namibia, from the sand dunes of Sossusvlei to the plains where you can spot wildlife up close.
  • Always remember to bring your swimsuit! Finding a swimming pool will be a welcome relief from the scorching desert heat.
  • The sarong, also known as the African kikoy, is a multipurpose piece of fabric that can double as anything from a sunshade to a towel—a bag-friendly essential.
  • Sunscreen with a high factor and eye protection, such as sunglasses or a wide-brimmed hat, are must-haves when venturing out into the African sun.
  • Use a high-quality facial and body moisturiser to ward against the desert’s drying effects and maintain healthy skin.
  • Equipment: Make sure you don’t miss a moment of the stunning Namibian scenery by bringing extra batteries and memory cards for your camera.
  • Bring water, sunscreen, snacks and other necessities for day travels with you in a compact bag or backpack.

Security and Well-being during your trip

  • In case of an emergency, have a compact medical kit on hand. It should include pain relievers, insect repellent, antiseptic wipes, plasters, and any other prescriptions that may be required.
  • For personal hygiene items, such as shampoo, conditioner, antibacterial soap, deodorant, and a water filter bottle, it is recommended to bring a lightweight carry bag. Include these necessities to minimise plastic waste.

Paperwork on your Namibia tour

  • Keep a colour photocopy of your passport on hand at all times and a digital copy safely stored in your email or cloud account.
  • Be sure to bring the appropriate visa paperwork to enter Namibia, as this will vary by nationality. Tourists from most countries can enter Namibia visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. You will receive a complimentary Visitor’s Entry Permit when you arrive. The validity of this permit is customised to your stated itinerary, so it’s wise to request a few extra days in advance if you anticipate that your travels may be longer than expected. Make sure your passport has enough blank pages for entry and exit stamps and that its validity is at least six months beyond your intended stay.
  • Please ensure that you have your immunisation records readily available so that you may access them easily while travelling.
  • Invest in travel insurance to safeguard yourself from unforeseen circumstances, such as medical bills or having to cancel your vacation.
  • Credit and Debit Cards: For hassle-free access to money while travelling, bring a transaction-free debit card. Additionally, have some US Dollars and South African Rand on hand as backup cash.

Kolmanskop Ghost Town: Haunting Sea-Side Hamlet

Kolmanskop Ghost Town in Namibia is an enchanting remnant of the country’s diamond mining era; visiting it is an eerily beautiful experience. This deserted hamlet provides an intriguing look into the past and an opportunity to learn about resilience and deterioration as it stands frozen in time in the middle of the ever-changing Namib Desert.

At Kolmanskop, you can enjoy the unearthly beauty of wandering through lonely alleys and crumbling buildings that lie half-buried in the sand. Investigate the ruins of opulent mansions, their interiors engulfed by sand dunes, and try to picture the thriving community that once called this isolated outpost home.

As you explore the eerie ruins of Kolmanskop, you can feel the passing of time and the indomitable spirit of the Namibian environment, and you can also see how nature is reclaiming her corner at the sea. You can expect a bizarre and unique encounter at this haunted place, one that will make you think about how quickly time flies and how fleeting human achievements are.

Damaraland: Dramatic Scenery

Damaraland is a huge, wild, and dramatically gorgeous area in Namibia; it is also arguably one of the country’s most picturesque areas. If you’re the daring type, this breathtaking wilderness provides an experience like no other. In Damaraland, you may expect to see ancient rivers with vast grasslands, granite hills, and deep gorges. Westward, the landscape undergoes a drastic shift: the Skeleton Coast is where the seemingly endless sandy wilderness meet the churning Atlantic Ocean.

Damaraland is inhabited by extraordinary creatures that have shaped their way of existence to endure one of the most hostile habitats on Earth. You might spot a few desert-adapted animals here, like ostriches, black rhinos, giraffes, oryx, and springboks (gazelles). When foraging for water and food, desert-adapted elephants can cover up to 70 km (40 mi) every day.

Since there are essentially two options for lodging in Namibia—expensive hotels or camping—this is where the bulk of the costs will accrue. Almost no inexpensive alternatives exist if you aren’t keen on lugging around heavy camping gear.

Prices can range from $100 per night during the off-season (December–March) to double that amount (June–October) due to the influx of tourists.

Travelling by public transport from Windhoek to the coastal towns of Swakupmund and Walvis Bay is one of the few budget-friendly routes in Namibia. Companies like Carlo’s offer private, pre-booked shuttles for about $16 (N$300) for trips that take four to five hours.

Prices for meals in Namibia were not uniform across the country. You can get a lunch for around $5 to $10 when you’re staying in or driving through towns. Lodge meals in Etosha National Park are the priciest. There, the price was about $20. The average cost for breakfast is about $7–$10, lunch is around $10, and dinner is around $15–$20.
