This Camp is located in South Africa’s Kapama Game Reserve, just 48 kilometres west of the Kruger National Park. The Kapama Game Reserve is 13 000 hectares of undisturbed bushveld where a plethora of animal, plant, and birdlife reveals the essence of the Olifants Valley.
It is accessible by air or road from Johannesburg. A road trip will take you via the N1/N4 from via Witbank, Middleburg, Belfast, Dullstroom, Lydenburg and the Abel Erasmus Pass through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit and via the R40 to the Buffalo Camp Main gate.
Â
Kapama Buffalo Camp’s accommodation comprises ten luxury canvas tents set on wooden decks, in the upper reaches of tall trees, overlooking a seasonal river.
Each sleeps two guests.
Leather and dark wood furnishings create a classic but chic safari vibe, which is enhanced by modern conveniences such as white cotton linen, plush throws, climate control, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
Each open-concept suite features a king-sized bed, a bathtub with a view, a shower, double vanities, and a large deck with outdoor seating.
Wooden walkways high above the sandy riverbed connect the tents.
To keep guests warm on those cold winter nights, the beds have fleecy throws and heated under blankets.
At the accommodation, an ingenious and efficient African boiler provides hot water. Because the camp only accommodates 20 guests, special emphasis is placed on personalised service.
Other room facilities include a safe, mini-bar, wardrobe, tea/coffee facilities and writing table.
Â
Wooden walkways under a canopy of trees connect the suites to the main lodge – an interconnected and intimate area with plenty of space and private sitting areas.
Enjoy a hearty meal in the dining room, curl up with a book by the fireplace, or share African stories with other guests at the Buffalo Bar. The pool area is surrounded by lush foliage and has sun loungers and umbrellas on the wooden deck. A gift shop and an elegant wellness centre with a gym, lap pool, and six treatment rooms are also available.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served in an open-air setting, with multiple courses and options to suit every palate. There are local dishes to try, including various venison dishes, and there are snacks, refreshments, and afternoon high tea to look forward to in between hearty meals. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a candlelit dinner outdoors in the traditional boma around a roaring fire.
Wi-fi is available at the lodge.

Clay Pigeon Shooting is available upon request and at an additional cost. Two clay pigeon machines and one rabbit rolling machine are available.
The Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre is about an hour’s drive through the bush from Kapama Lodge. The visit to the centre is arranged between the guests and the rangers during their stay at Kapama Private Game Reserve.
The rangers organise bush walks on this Kapama Game Reserve safari, which include informative talks about the grasses, trees, wildflowers, and animals.
Picnics and bush braais can be set up in various locations throughout the reserve.
A bird hide is constructed along the banks of a large dam. Visitors can see a wide variety of water birds as well as animals coming down to drink.
