Location

Lion Sands Tinga Lodge is located in the private 5 000-hectare Lion Sands Private Game Reserve within the famous Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Apart from private traversing rights, the lodge’s open safari vehicles can also traverse the main roads in the park without restrictions, thereby allowing unlimited game-viewing opportunities in one of the world’s most famous reserves. The property has prime river frontage and is situated 20km (12.4 miles) from the main entrance to the Kruger National Park, the Paul Kruger Gate.

The lodge comprises 9 luxury suites, all located on the banks of the Sabie River with breathtaking views of the natural bushveld.

These 9 immaculately furnished suites are all cleverly positioned along the riverbank and offer scenic views from their private decks. The eco-friendly suites, constructed from wood with thatched roofs, are located about 10- to 15- metres apart, ensuring utmost privacy at all times.

ACTIVITIES AT TINGA LODGE

Safari activities at Lion Sands Tinga Lodge

It goes without saying that Kruger National Park is one of the finest safari destinations in South Africa, and on the African continent, and with good reason.

Discover the Big Five, follow the tracks of a leopard or view the many different bird species in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve.

Guests can look forward to an array of safari activities. This area in the south of the park is well-known for prime sightings, from herds of elephant lazing away the warm afternoons in the riverbed to the prides of lion that have made this wilderness their home.

Bush Walks

Every morning after brunch, you will have a unique opportunity to experience the wilderness from a whole new perspective on a bush walk under the guidance of an experience and armed field guide. This is a unique opportunity to discover the hidden secrets of this pristine wilderness’ fauna and flora. The duration of the walk is approximately one hour.

During a guided bush walk you will discover and learn to appreciate nature’s intricacies. In addition, Lions Sands Tinga Lodge also gives you the opportunity to participate in night walks during which you will discover South Africa’s starry sky. Bush breakfasts or dinners, as well as river tours, are also on offer. Truly unique is the option to sleep out under the stars in one of the Lion Sands treehouses (optional and at an additional cost).

Bush Safari Drives

Bush safaris are offered twice daily on open safari vehicles, fitted with roofs to keep the heat of the sun at bay. You will depart on the early morning bush drive at dawn, directly after enjoying a steaming cup of coffee and some rusks. With such a wide expanse of wilderness to traverse, special sightings such as lion enjoying a fresh kill, will leave lasting memories. Upon your return to the camp a scrumptious breakfast will await you.

You can also enjoy an afternoon/early evening safari drive during which you can watch the spectacular African sunset while sipping on a cocktail at a scenic spot on the route. Search for nocturnal animals preparing for the hunt while immersing yourself in the sounds of the bush at night.

Your knowledgeable guide and tracker will share their wealth of knowledge in an informative manner, leaving you in awe of nature and its wonders. Upon your return to camp you can dine on exquisite cuisine in the boma, while sharing your experiences of the bush around the fire over a glass of fine wine.

HOW TO GET TO TINGA LODGE

Guests can fly in directly from Johannesburg to Skukuza Airport, which is only a 10-minute drive from the lodge, or alternatively to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Mbombela (Nelspruit), which is a 1 ½ – 2-hour drive from Tinga. Private transfer services are available from both locations.

How to get there by road

Travel by road from Johannesburg, Gauteng Province in South Africa takes approximately 5 hours.

The recommended route from Johannesburg is the N12 / N4 to Maputu via Mbombela (Nelspruit).Then the R40 from Mbombela (Nelspruit) to Hazyview.

When you get to Mbombela, take the R40 Road to Hazyview.  In Hazyview, turn right onto the  R536 towards the Paul Kruger Gate at Kruger National Park.

Tinga Lodge is located 20km (12.4 miles) from the gate in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
