ABOUT MOLORI SAFARI LODGE

Molori, meaning “to dream” in the local seTswana language”, is a very apt description of the essence of this pristine Madikwe safari lodge, recognised globally as one of the most luxurious wilderness lodges. This five-suite retreat was constructed in the 75 00-hectare malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve in 2007.

Molori Safari Lodge will appeal to the discerning nature lover in search of privacy and ultimate luxury and relaxation in the African wilderness. It is an opulent retreat where service excellence is the norm and utter rejuvenation of body and mind the objective.

About Madikwe Private Game Reserve

The Madikwe Private Game Reserve is one of South Africa’s prime safari destinations. Situated on the Botswana border within the North West Province of South Africa, these 75 000 hectares traversing wilderness is home to the so-called Super Seven, which includes all the Big Five species – lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino, as well as cheetah and the elusive African wild dog. The reserve also boasts more than 350 recorded bird species.

Habitats include open grasslands and bushveld plains, with scattered rocky outcrops and single mountains which make for spectacular game-viewing opportunities.

Cuisine

MolorI Safari Lodge’s expert chefs – all internationally trained – takes delight in creating superb distinctly African cuisine, made from the freshest home-grown organic ingredients, and brimming with flavour. Inspired by Western and Eastern influences, guests are treated to gourmet meals which appeal to all palates.

From the scrumptious champagne breakfasts and delectable lunches, to delicious three-course dinners served in the open-air boma, dining at Molori is a culinary feast. Fine local and imported wines from the cellar are perfectly paired with individual dishes to create the ultimate taste sensations. Vintage whiskies and cognacs will also appeal to the fine-blend connoisseur.

The lodge also boasts a pizza oven and the chefs will gladly assist you in creating your own pizza masterpiece. The chefs are also available for one-on-one cooking classes. These need to be booked 24 hours in advance, though.

A range of freshly baked delicacies compliments the daily afternoon high tea, and the range of eats and treats prepared for a bush picnic will impress.

The choice of location in which to dine is limitless. Guests can also request an intimate dinner to enjoy in the privacy of their suite.

The creative barmen are all masters in the art of cocktail preparation. The lodge caters to all dietary requirements.

All the luxury suites boast floor-to-ceiling retractable glass walls, which fold away completely to provide breathtaking views of the wilderness. En-suite bathrooms and a range of luxury amenities complete the package to perfection.

The Molelo Presidential Suite

This luxurious two-bedroom suite features elegant modern African design elements and floor-to- ceiling glass doors, offer an elevated view of the magnificent African landscape.

A spacious wooden deck with infinity pool, hot spa bath and an alfresco dining area offer guests endless hours of relaxation.

The bedrooms have been positioned on opposite ends of the suite and each has its own en-suite bathroom.

The suite also has a fireplace, study and library area with an impressive collection of National Geographic magazines dating back to the 1940s.

Metsi Presidential Suite

The Metsi Presidential Suite has a master bedroom with walk-in dressing room, and en-suite bathroom with a free-standing rim-flow bath. This stunning, opulent suite fuses contemporary design with earthy African art. The floor-to-ceiling retractable glass walls give way to a spacious wooden deck, private infinity pool, hot spa bath and alfresco outdoor dining area.

The kitchen area and formal indoor dining room blend into the living room and lounge area.

The Metsi suite also has a study and library area.

Sephiri Family Premier Suite

The split-level Sephiri suite has two bedrooms, each with their own en-suite bathroom. It can sleep up to four guests and is ideal for families. Black-and-white finishes and neutral tones create the perfect backdrop for stunning contemporary design pieces, while the retractable floor-to-ceiling glass doors afford magnificent views of the wilderness.

The suite has a study and lounge with stone-clad fireplace. The deck with its plunge pool and daybeds offers guests the opportunity for blissful relaxation.

Unique to Sephiri is the second-floor bedroom, which features its own entrance, en-suite bathroom and a private terrace with breathtaking views of the reserve.

Lesedi Premier Suite

The opulent Lesedi suite epitomises comfort and elegance, accentuated by contemporary hand-crafted African pieces such as the hanging bedroom chandelier.

The suite’s lounge is separated from the bedroom by a cylindrical floor-to-ceiling stone-clad fireplace, while the retractable glass walls give way to a large terrace with a private infinity pool and stunning views of the valley below.

The luxurious bathroom features a porcelain claw-footed bath and, here too, retractable glass walls fold away to allow you to immerse yourself in nature.

Ngwedi Premier Suite

The Ngwedi Suite offers a luxurious combination of comfort and elegance with custom-designed furniture in the large living and lounge area, and also boasts an impressive floor-to-ceiling fireplace.

The bedroom with its retractable glass walls, spills onto a private wooden deck with plunge pool. This stunning outdoor area also features luxurious daybeds, an orbital love seat, and an outdoor shower. Eclectic furnishings lend a contemporary African feel to the suite.

Unique to this premium suite is the free-standing copper bath, in the bathroom, the glass walls of which fold away offering spectacular views of the bush.

MAIN LODGE

The subtle blend of Afro-centric contemporary and classic decor creates a charming and very sophisticated feel that will appeal to the discerning globetrotter.

Earth tones and the clever combination of natural elements such as wood thatch, and tree trunks protruding through the living areas and deck, are constant reminders of the fact that you are finding yourself in wild Africa.

The main lodge comprises a large living room, four dining areas, a bar and a library. The lounge and bar area open up onto the deck with its hot spa bath and twin infinity pool from where guests can enjoy optimal wildlife viewing. The decks all feature daybeds where guest can relax and soak up some African sun. The stylish library boasts a wide selection of popular books, as well as a humidor with a superb selection of imported cigars (available at an extra cost). The lodge lounge also has a satellite TV and DVD player.

ACTIVITIES AT MOLORI SAFARI LODGE

Game Drives

Discover adventure and connect to the wild up close when you head into the bush in open safari vehicle under the expert guidance of a field guide and experienced tracker. Game drives take place during the early morning and late afternoons during which your field guide will share his wealth of knowledge of the bush while tracking the Big Five and other endangered species like wild dog and cheetah. It is an opportunity to discover the hidden secrets of the bush. Tracking animals after dark by spotlight opens up a whole new world of excitement. Expect to see nocturnal wildlife such as leopard, honey badger and smaller members of the cat family. Your guide will also stop at scenic spots en route for some refreshments. Watching an African sunset, cocktail in hand is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Bushwalks

For the more adventurous early morning bushwalks offer the exhilarating experience of tracking animals on foot. Here you can immerse yourself in the rhythms of nature, and utilise all your senses as your guide reveals the intricacies of the African bush, its creatures, medicinal plants, hidden treasures and more.

Super Seven by Night

Discover nocturnal adventure on a night drive tracking Madikwe’s Super Seven. Using hi-tech torches, you have the rare opportunity to see into the nocturnal world of lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, rhinoceros, wild dog and cheetah. A whole new dimension is revealed on this exhilarating experience.

Rhino-tagging

Molori is involved in rhino conservation efforts and guests can by arrangement be part of an extraordinary hands-on rhino tagging experience – involving the notching, DNA sampling and micro chipping of the rhino’s horns. Guests can work on the ground with the vet and ecologist, in close proximity to the sedated rhino, or take to the air in a helicopter during the rhino search. The rhino tagging conservation experience is charged at additional cost and must be arranged a week in advance. Guests of all ages can participate, with a high level of parental monitoring required for younger children. The experience begins early morning, between 6:30 and 7:00am, and runs into the early afternoon. Lunch is taken to guests in the bush or a late lunch can be arranged upon return to the lodge.

Wild-dog expedition

The African wild dog is the second most endangered carnivore in Africa after the Ethiopian wolf, with the current population of wild dogs in South Africa estimated at less than 400. This expedition gives guest an insight into what it takes to conserve and protect these amazing animals for future generations. Guests spend an early morning tracking down the Madikwe wild dog pack and learn about the packs strictly defined social hierarchy, the bonds between members and their superb, cooperative hunting techniques. Additional cost applies.

Molori Hide & Whiskey Bar

New to Molori, this hide offers magnificent views overlooking the Molori waterhole which has quickly become a favourite spot for guests to observe Madikwe wildlife at close proximity. It offers keen photographer’s new opportunities to take intimate images of elephants, lion, buffalo and amazing birdlife that pop in to quench their thirst. Adjacent to the hide, that features floor to ceiling glass doors overlooking the Dwarsberg mountain range, guests get to experience whisky and wine tastings while observing the wildlife.

Wellness

Molori Safari Spa

The tranquil Molori Safari Spa encompasses the natural peace and beauty of the surrounding African bush. Guests can choose from a full suite of massage, aromatherapy and skin and body treatments. The spa uses only the finest products, made from the finest plant extracts and essential oils, and without artificial colours or fragrances. Treatments can be done in the spa’s comfortable indoor rooms or in the fresh, natural setting of the spa’s outdoor deck area. Guests can also enjoy private spa treatments in their suites.

Fitness Centre

The Molori Safari Fitness Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art gym equipment, including a treadmill, bike and cross-trainers. Other accessories include weights, and pilates and yoga equipment. The centre also features a spacious steam room and Nordic sauna, both overlooking an inviting chiller pool.

Spa Deck

Molori Safari Spa features its own outdoor treatment deck, set in the surrounds of the African bush. Recline on comfortable daybeds and enjoy a choice of massages and treatments while you immerse yourself in the natural sounds and rhythms of nature.

Jacuzzi Deck

The Jacuzzi Deck features a rim-flow chilled spa bath and is situated on the highest mountainside deck. Experience the pure bliss of a relaxing spa bath while taking in expansive views of the Madikwe bushveld.

Viewing Decks & Pools

A special and unique feature of Molori Safari is the many pools and viewing decks which invite our guests to find some time and space all to themselves. Here they can immerse themselves in the natural surroundings and quietly focus on their inner world, getting in touch once again with what awakens and inspires the soul.

Decks include the Viewing Deck, with its view of Molori Safari’s private water hole, the Jacuzzi Deck, with its spectacular rim-flow chilled spa bath, the Spa Deck, where you can opt for a massage or treatment, and the Star Deck, which also functions as a peaceful reading deck by day.

Culinary Classes

Molori Safari Lodge’s expertly trained chefs are available for one-on-one cooking classes and may even part with a few of their delectable secrets. Aspiring chefs can learn how to prepare their favourite indigenous dishes – from selecting and preparing ingredients to cooking and presenting a meal. Classes must be pre-booked 24 hours in advance.

Junior Rangers

For children, Molori Safari presents a world of adventure and discovery. The xperienced Molori game rangers are passionate about sharing their knowledge with younger guests (our Junior Rangers) and opening their eyes to a whole new world of creatures both large and small. Junior Rangers can participate in exciting animal tracking and identification excursions, learn about the Madikwe Reserve’s Super Seven and the importance of conservation, and develop appreciation for all the small gifts nature has to offer. Other Junior Ranger activities include pizza making, baking, fishing, games and arts and crafts.

Fishing

The Groot Marico River runs through the reserve and offers some spectacular fishing spots as well as an opportunity to view hippos. A fishing excursion, complete with a delectable picnic basket, can be arranged upon request.

Curio shop

The on-site curio shop offers unique items from local well-known designers and lesser-known crafters who produce beautiful work and create job opportunities for local craftspeople. Clothing items such as scarves, beanies, hats, T-shirts and jackets are also included in the product offering. Here you can find that perfect gift for a loved-one back home.
