Pilanesberg National Park, South Africa’s fourth largest game park, is situated in a crater in the Bojanala Region of the North West Province. This crater is the product of a volcano that erupted many millions of years ago. This extinct volcano has evolved to become one of the most fascinating landscapes for you to visit. By the Genesis project the majority of South Africa’s wildlife is now found in the Pilanesberg game reserve.
The park covers an area of 55 000 hectares. More than 7000 animals live here in a free and unhindered environment. Pilanesberg is home to all of the BIG 5 (elephant, rhino, leopard, buffalo and lion) and we guarantee that you will be able to tick off most on your list of game sightings! Other animals that you may encounter are zebra, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, hippo, crocodile, jackal, wild cat, various antelope as well as over 300 bird species…the list is endless.
Pilanesberg offers over 200 km of roads for guided or self-drive game viewing. On our tour you enjoy an extensive game drive conducted by an experienced and knowledgeable tour guide who will answer all your questions about the fascinating wildlife and environment. Bring your camera to have a permanent record of all the wild animals and the spectacular landscape this National Park has to offer.

My Safari, organised by MoAfrika Tours, was one of the best experiences of my life. My wife and I had a truly amazing time. The trip didn't start too well as our Mango flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg was delayed by almost 4 hours! We were panicking as we were due to be picked up at the airport by MoAfrika. However, once I contacted them my fears were allayed. They organised a driver to pick us up from our delayed flight. We had expected that we would miss our afternoon drive but to our amazement, MoAfrika had contacted our lodge and organised a night drive for us! This was just amazing customer experience. The Safari itself was just fantastic. We stayed at the Pilansburg lodge and were treated like royalty. The drives were spectacular and we got to see 4 of the big 5 (the elusive Leopard was hiding). We also got to spot a Cheetah, which is apparently extremely rare, which made our safari even more special. Honestly, I could not recommend MoAfrika Tours enough. The customer experience was outstanding and added to our unforgettable trip.
This safari trip met every expectation I and my wife had. Excellent service at the lodge. Dedicated guides. We have seen all big five.Strongly recommend for anyone interested in the extended weekend safari experience.. Stan Kotowski, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
This was our second booking with Moafrika Tours and we decided to stay in a 4-star lodge (our first trip was to a 3-star lodge). We specifically chose the Pilanesburg Private Reserve, which is located in the Black Rhino part of Pilanesburg Park and is a 5-room only lodge. Moafrika tours collected us from our hotel in Johannesburg on Day 1 (early morning) as part of other pick-ups, then drops each off at their relevant lodge. The same minibus that did the pick up, takes you around Pilanesburg park for the first game drive. On Day 3, the Moafrika bus drops you off at Sun City for a few hour's before collecting then transferring back to your hotel in Johannesburg. The handful of staff at the lodge were all friendly and helpful. Hendrik our game driver was knowledgeable and eager to show us as much as possible during each game drive. Petro was always there to meet us after our game drive and was very friendly. We didn't manage to see all the Big-5, but everything we did see was amazing. The food at the lodge was adequate, nothing special (we must have had a different chef to previous reviewers who raved about how good the food was). The room itself was comfortable - very spacious and the view from our patio overlooked the watering hole. During our stay we managed to see zebra (from our room patio) and a large male elephant (from the main lodge)! There was tea/coffee/kettle in the room and toiletries. It looked like it could do with some refurbishment and wasn't as clean as I'd have liked. One of the double sinks in our room was leaking (when we checked in), but it was never repaired during our stay, so we had to both use the one sink. It wasn't a problem, but we were told that it would be repaired. There was an indoor and outdoor shower. I tried both, but the outdoor shower drainage wasn't good, so my feet were stood in about 2 inches of water while I was showering. Being based in the private part of the Pilanesburg Park had its positives and negatives : Positive : the Black Rhino part could not be accessed by visitors to the main Pilanesburg Park Negative : it took longer to drive to the main Pilanesburg Park Overall, a very good stay. It was nice to stay somewhere different to our last visit to Pilanesburg Park
