The Mini Peninsula Tour is the perfect way to explore both the bustling city and the enticing nature scenes of Cape Town. There are 14 stops along the circular route and tourist can hop on and off at any as they please.
We travel around the back of Table Mountain with the magnificent Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and Constantia Winelands among many of the popular attractions along the route. After our journey to some of the most beautiful places in Cape Town, we head back to the city from the direction of Hout Bay.
This is a hop-on/hop-off tour and it’s your choice which popular places along the route you’d like to visit. For a combination of nature, birds and animals and a rich cultural experience, stop off at these three attractions:
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens spans over 528 hectares and is home to more plant species than the British Isles. The national gardens opened in 1913 and South Africa’s national flower, the King Protea, can be seen here. The lush forests and wide variety of indigenous fynbos make it a perfect picnic spot.
More than 2 500 plant species can be found in the Peninsula’s Garden of Eden and then there’s the Centenary Tree Canopy Walkway, commonly referred to as the Boomslang.
World of Birds
A trip to the largest bird sanctuary in Africa is an attraction not to be missed. With over 3 000 birds of 400 species and an interactive squirrel monkey jungle, there is never a dull moment at World of Birds. Guides make this tour even more memorable with fascinating stories about ostriches, penguins and many other species.
This is the best stop in Hout Bay for a magical tour of an animal wonderworld with flamingos, owls, eagles, meerkats, porcupines and many more.
Imizamo Yethu Township
A guided walking tour through the sprawling informal settlement in Hout Bay is an opportunity to learn more about the culture of the local community. You’ll find out exactly why this township became a popular tourist attraction. Pp in at Original T-Bag Designs where old tea bags are turned into works of art.
Please note
Commentary on the Red Bus is available in 15 languages (English, Afrikaans, Arabic, French, German, Dutch, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Zulu) and there is an audio channel specifically for kids.
