Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge is one of the original lodges built in the reserve and caters for a wide range of guests; from families with young children to large groups of conference delegates and wedding guests. Before the drive back to Johannesburg, you have the option of a game drive in a closed tour vehicle in Pilanesberg Game Reserve.

Kwa Maritane is located in a malaria-free area on the lip of an ancient volcanic crater that’s estimated to be over 2 billion years old. The geology and ecology of the area is fascinating; Pilanesberg Game Reserve lies in a transitional zone between the dry, arid Kalahari Desert and the lush Lowveld region. The reserve supports a high concentration of game that have adapted to its unique ecosystem.
The name of the lodge means “Place of the Rock”; so named because Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge is nestled between great granite boulders on an escarpment with panoramic views of the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Kwa Maritane is famous for its game viewing hide which is connected to the lodge by a 180-metre tunnel. It’s authentic bush braais at a boma deep in the bushveld are also legendary.
Guests stay in tastefully decorated rooms that can accommodate young children. After the morning game drives, there’s a wide choice of things to do at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge to keep the whole family busy. Lodge facilities include a large sparkling pool, flood-lit tennis courts, putt-putt, kids’ playground, spa and wellness centre, restaurant, cocktail lounge, bar and internet business centre. Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge also caters for large conference groups and private functions.

Guests are picked up early in Johannesburg and driven to Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Arrive at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge mid-day after exploring the game reserve for a few hours. Have a light lunch and relax before it’s time to depart for a late-afternoon game drive in the reserve. Game drives are in an open safari vehicle with a professional ranger. Return to the lodge as the sun is setting and enjoy a delicious dinner in the restaurant.

Set off early after hot beverages for a 3-hour sunrise game drive in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve in an open safari vehicle with a professional ranger. Return to the lodge for breakfast and keep yourself busy with everything there is to do at Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge. For an additional cost, you can join a guided bush walk or a game tracking activity, or visit the reserve’s wildlife centre or Predator’s World. Depart late afternoon for the game drive. Dinner at the lodge restaurant.

Wake up early for hot beverages and then depart for a 3-hour sunrise game drive in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve. Return for a hearty breakfast; pack up and be ready for collection between 11:00 – 11:30am for a closed vehicle (Minivan) game drive in the reserve . Depart mid-afternoon between 15:00 – 15:15 for the return journey to Johannesburg.
