The well-known Ohrigstad Dam Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to spend a day or a weekend in South Africa’s Lowveld. Visitors can go bird watching, game viewing, fishing, boating, and picnicking. There are numerous hiking and biking trails to enjoy, as well as many more nearby reserves to explore.
We provide daily shuttle services from Johannesburg to Ohrigstad.
It was discovered for the first time in 1923 by a farmer looking for missing livestock, most likely a relative of Oom Schalk Lourens, another legendary Groot Marico cattle seeker. The Echo Caves, like the majority of the larger caves in the area, are located in the very hard Black Reef Quartzite layer that forms the hard edge of the Limpopo Escarpment.
