The well-known Panorama Route starts nearly immediately after leaving Lydenburg, close to where the Long Tom Pass begins, making the town a popular destination for tourists.
In addition to farming, trout fishing, and mining being among the most well-known industries of Mashishing (formerly Lydenburg), the town is also of historical importance.
Andries Potgieter, a notable Voortrekker commander, founded Lydenburg in the year 1850. Even for a short while, it was the seat of government for what was then known as the Zuid-Afrikaansche Republiek.
We provide daily shuttle services from Johannesburg to Lydenburg.
The Lydenburg Heads are sculptures made of hollow clay that are approximately 500 years old. These sculptures are on display at the Lydenburg Museum, which is on the “bucket list” of many people who are interested in history.
