Accommodation
The Mateya Safari Lodge is the perfect place to get away from it all to relax, as it can only hold up to 10 people. Each of the private suites has its own rim-flow pool deck and a great view of the waterhole or the vast African savannah.
The five luxury thatched suites at Mateya Safari Lodge are all different and have air conditioning. Each suite fits in with its natural surroundings and has a view of the plains and waterhole. Guests can enjoy a balance of elegance and comfort in complete privacy and harmony with nature, savouring the rare pleasure of their own private piece of Africa.
In fact, the original African art on the walls of each suite seems to capture the spirit of the Madikwe Game Reserve, which is a beautiful, wild area of bushland. As you lay back on hand-made mahogany furniture and watch the Zebra lead the plains animals to the waterhole, the experience couldn’t feel more real. Every part of your suite gives you privacy and comfort, whether you’re lying in the shade of your natural window sala or swimming in your rim-flow pool. Frequently Asked Questions
What are the driving directions to Mateya Safari Lodge?
From Johannesburg/Pretoria, Mateya Safari Lodge can be reached after an enjoyable four and half-hour journey.
The suggested route includes Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Derby, Koster, Swartruggens and Zeerust. There is a toll road near Swartruggens; please note there is an individual toll fee per vehicle along this route. In Zeerust turn right at First National Bank where there will be a direction board showing directions towards Madikwe Game Reserve and Gaborone.
From Zeerust it is 85km to Madikwe Game Reserve; turn right at Abjaterskop Gate into the Reserve and note the speed limit is 40 km/hour; watch out for speed humps!
Follow the main road for 11km until reaching a T-junction and turn left, following Derdepoort signs for two more kilometres before turning right at another T-junction following Mateya signs for one kilometre and then turning right again at reception sign to reach Mateya Safari Lodge.

What is the weather like at Mateya Safari Lodge?
Mateya Safari Lodge is located within the Madikwe Game Reserve where temperatures throughout the year average at 18 degrees Centigrade, with September-April weather ranging between 16 degrees Centigrade and 35 degrees Centigrade. In the winter months (May through August) temperatures tend to be lower – at between 0 degrees and 22 degrees Centigrade.
Madikwe Game Reserve falls within a summer rainfall region, with highest precipitation expected between November and February and lowest between June and September.
