5 Day Garden Route Adventure

Garden Route is one of the most popular tourist regions in South Africa. It offers travellers a combination of stunning scenery, beautiful beaches, quaint coastal towns, fabulous restaurants, outdoor adventures and a Big 5 safari tour.

There’s so much to see and do on the Garden Route and this tour packs in as much as it can in five days.You travel on the longest wine route in the world to the Ostrich Capital of the World and then onto South Africa’s  favourite town, the highest bungee jump site in the world, the highest bridge in South Africa, one of the largest breeding colonies of African penguins and everything else in between that’s spectacular and exciting.

Accommodation

24 luxury suites and 18 private chalets, sleeping up to 60 guests. Established in 1999, the Garden Route Game Farm is a 4-star safari lodge located close to the town of Albertinia on what was the first privately-owned game reserve in the Cape.

The malaria free safari destination is home to the Big 5 and an  abundance of general game and birds. The African-themed décor is elegant, fresh and contemporary and each spacious unit is fully equipped for comfort  and convenience.

A private deck with an outdoor shower and plunge pool offers guests panoramic views of the breathtaking bushveld surrounds.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Cape Town - Oudtshoorn (440 Kilometres)

Guests are collected in Cape Town early morning (6am) and driven to Oudtshoorn, the ostrich capital of the world in the Little Karoo. The scenic drive follows the world-famous Route 62 which is also known as the ‘longest wine route in the world’. Stop for lunch along the way.

The afternoon in Oudtshoorn is spent exploring the magical Cango Caves which is an intricate cave system located in Precambrian limestones at the foothills of the Swartberg mountains. This is followed by a visit to a working ostrich farm.

Overnight at accommodation in Oudtshoorn. Enjoy an authentic Karoo meal at the lodge restaurant.

Day 2 - Oudtshoorn - Wilderness - Plettenberg Bay - Storms River (215 Kilometres)

Wake up early for breakfast. Depart for the Wilderness area, travelling over the historic Swartberg Mountain Pass and stopping at the scenic ‘Map of Africa’ lookout point. It’s a viewpoint that gives you a bird’s-eye perspective of the Kaaimans River which makes an unmistakable outline of the African continent as it winds through the lush forest valley.

Arrive in Knysna mid-day. The afternoon is spent visiting the Knysna Heads and the famous Knysna Waterfront and Knysna Quays. Mid-afternoon depart for Storms River, travelling via Plettenberg Bay.

Overnight at accommodation in Storms River which is the ‘Adventure capital of the Garden Route. Dinner served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 3 - Storms River - Addo Elephant National Park - Jeffrey’s Bay (100 Kilometres)

After breakfast, depart for a hike in the glorious Tsitsikamma National Park, ending at the Storms River Mouth. You’ll walk across the Hanging Bridge and can swim in the warm Indian Ocean.

Lunch mid-day, before departing for Addo Elephant National Park and enjoying a late-afternoon game drive. Addo Elephant National Park is the third-largest national park in South Africa. The original section was founded in 1931 to provide a sanctuary for the 11 remaining elephants in the wilderness area.

Overnight at accommodation in Jeffrey’s Bay, the ‘Surfing Capital of South Africa’. Dinner served at the lodge restaurant.

Day 4 - Jeffrey’s Bay - Mossel Bay (300 Kilometres)

From the Eastern Cape, we head back towards the Garden Route and to the World’s highest Bungy Bridge at Bloukrans (plenty of time to jump for those thrill seekers). This 216-m high bungy is a true marvel to behold, even for those that have a fear of heights! Our journey leads us to the Garden Route Game Lodge where we will also overnight in the luxury accommodation. We will do a late afternoon safari drive where we will have the opportunity to view rhino, lion, buffalo, cheetah and many varieties of antelope species. A sumptuous and varied buffet dinner is served at the lodge and is yet another highlight!

Day 5 - Mossell Bay - Hermanus - Betty’s Bay - Cape Town

Early morning Game drive to see some animals you perhaps didn’t see the evening before followed by a scrumptious breakfast! After check out, we make our way to Hermanus, which is famous for being the best land-based whale watching site (in season) in the world and is a beautiful little town with wonderful cliff side walks. Making our way back towards Cape Town, our last stop is at Stony Point where we visit the local penguin Colony – making our way back with spectacular views over False Bay.
