The gorgeous Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa’s North West Province is home to the malaria-free Impodimo Game Lodge, which is perched on a granite hill overlooking the landscape.
Madikwe Game Reserve, which borders Botswana, is a 75 000-hectare expanse of extraordinary geography and spectacular beauty. The Big 5, the lovely Painted Wolf (African Wild Dogs), Cheetah, Brown and Spotted Hyena, as well as a variety of huge animals and bird life, may all be found there.
Cattle and arable crops were once practised on the territory where Madikwe Game Reserve now lies. Due to poor agricultural methods and poor administration, the local farming culture was mainly a failure. There was discussion of giving it to underprivileged and young cattle ranchers after the vegetation had deteriorated to an unusable state.
Prior to Madikwe Game Reserve becoming an official reserve, many of the abandoned farm structures, non-native vegetation, and the hundreds of kilometres of outdated fence had been removed but some of these outdated structures were preserved and were later transformed into workshops and park offices.
A few chosen private farmers have lately been allowed access to this area. Farm owners must follow park regulations since there are still limitations on where private cars may drive. Among other recent constructions are Community Lodges, which are managed by nearby villages. The local communities are then helped by the revenue from these community lodges.
Impodimo Game Lodge offers the perfect getaway to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is perched on a rocky hill with stunning views. This Madikwe Game Reserve’s 5-star luxury game lodge provides visitors everything they could possibly want from opulent food to the thrill of dawn and dusk game drives accompanied by a trained ranger.
The essential ingredients for an amazing stay are its stunning location at the source of a natural spring raised above the views of the park and riverine calm.
At Impodimo Game lodge, there are 8 Luxury suites that are carved into the hillside and deluxe Safari suites for those who want something extra special.
The suites at the lodge are big and have been placed in a way that gives you complete privacy. Luxury suites have twin beds that can be changed to king beds on request, full bathrooms with outdoor showers, closed-system fireplaces, and private decks.
Mosquito nets, and a patio are added luxuries.
Luxury suites comprise two rooms, each with its own private deck and en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, double hand basin, large bath, and great views.
The unit also has a central lounge and dining area with its own kitchen, bar, and a viewing deck with beautiful views over a waterhole. There is also a private pool on the deck.
Facilities at Impodimo Game Lodge comprise a Dining Area, Swimming Pool, Boma, Viewing Deck, Safari Shop and Spa.
When you get back from your morning game drive, you can have a delicious brunch at the pool lapa, high tea in the afternoon with a view of the African Bush, and the best Pan-African food with your hosts in the open-air boma. You can also talk about your adventures while having a nightcap by the fire.
When you go to Impodimo Game Lodge and Madikwe Game Reserve, you will probably want to relax and enjoy all the African bush has to offer.
During your stay at the lodge, you can do a lot of different things. These include game drives in open vehicles in the morning and evening, walks in the bush with an experienced guide, swimming and relaxing at the pools or getting a spa treatment, watching wildlife from the hide and bird watching.
Wake up to the African dawn and go on a game drive with your professional ranger and tracker before breakfast. Relax while your ranger leads you through the bush in an open-top Land Rover. In the afternoon, when the African sun is not as hot and the shadows are longer, go on a “sundowner safari” to watch the sun go down over this bushveld paradise and look for the animals that are most active at night.
Take a walk through the bush with your armed ranger and learn how to track African animals. Enjoy the trees, birds, and beautiful scenery. Impodimo has skilled trackers on each game viewer. These trackers help the ranger find the animals. Trackers are very important because they can see and understand signs in the bush that other people might have missed.
At Impodimo, kids of all ages are welcome, and they go out of their way to make sure that both the kids and their parents have a memorable safari. Their kids’ programme is made for different ages, so everyone can have fun and learn something.
Each child gets a personalised welcome pack with treats and things to do in between safaris. Children over the age of 6 are welcome on the game drives. However, families with younger children do not have to worry that their kids will miss out because they offer a “kiddies bumble” that is shorter and meant to keep the little ones’ attention.
A day in the bush is not complete without a massage on your private deck or on the Sala viewing deck.
In between game drives you can also spend time in the underground elephant hide just a few metres from the lodge’s waterhole, where elephants roll around in the mud and terrapins poke their heads out of the water. What’s more, this air-conditioned paradise has a fully stocked bar and the best Italian coffee.
It’s combining high-end luxury with great views of wildlife right outside your door and the best place to see big and small animals up close without getting in the way of how they normally act. The hide is a photographer’s dream. It has a great view and is safe and comfortable, so you can take that award-winning picture or just watch the action at the waterhole.
