Rhulani (which means “relax”) Safari Lodge is a great place to relax and unwind, just like its name says.

Rhulani is in the beautiful Madikwe Game Reserve. It invites you to take refuge in its luxurious, quiet atmosphere and celebrate the life and nature that will surround you.

Why Madikwe? The reserve is free of malaria, is a wild dog reserve, has several full board lodges, and is only 4.5 hours by car from Johannesburg.

Madikwe Game Reserve is home to many different kinds of animals because it has a wide range of habitats. The reserve has mountainous areas, a plateau, rocky hills, a river, seasonal wetlands, a variety of sandy and clay areas, and Bushveld, Kalahari veld, and Savanna areas.

Even though hunting and farming have done a lot of damage to the Madikwe area, Operation Phoenix has made it possible to bring back species that have not been there in more than 100 years. Because of this, there are many different kinds of animals, from insects to big game. There are more than 340 different kinds of birds.

The climate, which changes a lot from one part of the Park to another, is another thing that affects the types of plants that grow in different parts of Madikwe. Mixed bushveld, Kalahari bushveld, Arid sweet bushveld, and other turf thornveld are the main types of veld in the Park.

Madikwe has a mix of different kinds of plants because of how the land was managed on the farms that used to be in the Reserve.

Rhulani Safari Lodge was established in 2003 and since 2013, Rhulani has been owned by Rolf Steiner and Marisa Silva, two Swiss people. The owners want Rhulani to be the most interesting and beautiful safari option in Africa. This drives them to think about and improve the products and services they offer to our guests every day.

“We want our guests to slow down from everyday life in an environment of the highest quality and excellent service. At the same time, we want them to hear, see, and feel the fascinating nature around us.”

Accommodation

The Rhulani Safari Lodge has seven luxurious chalets available for guests to stay in, each of which has its own private heated plunge pool. No matter the temperature outside, visitors will be cosy inside the chalets thanks to the central heating and cooling systems as well as the fireplaces.

A spacious oval bathtub, an indoor shower, and an outdoor shower are included in each of the en suite bathrooms that are provided for guests.

The King and twin bedrooms each have their own private patio with a heated plunge pool and mosquito netting.

A luxury family suite has two separate King- or twin-sized bedrooms, a living room, two separate en suite bathrooms (one with a bathtub and the other with an indoor and outdoor shower), and a terrace with a private heated plunge pool.

Facilities

At Rhulani Safari Lodge are seven luxury chalets, each with a private deck, plunge pool and fireplace for guests to stay, complemented by one luxury two-bedroom suite with its own lounge for families.

Further to the accommodation, general facilities include a dining area, swimming pool, boma, Wi-Fi, viewing deck, and you can treat yourself to some fine souvenirs from a well-stocked curio shop that offers a wide range of South African artistic creations as well as safari clothes and other curios.

Boma dinners, indoor dining, or romantic dinners for two can be enjoyed while being serviced by a team of dedicated, proud and passionate staff.

The Lodge also features a gorgeous meeting centre that has space for as many as thirty delegates.

Activities

The experienced rangers at Rhulani will take you on a game drive or a game trail on foot. After that, you can get a massage in the privacy of your room or on your private deck.

You can see amazing wildlife at Rhulani, either from an open Land Cruiser or at the waterhole right in front of the lodge.

Spend time in a unique bird paradise and look at some of the more than 400 different kinds of birds. On your daily safaris and in the lodge, you will see the most beautiful birds. The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa has given Rhulani an award called “Bird Accolade.”

During the day, when it is quiet, you can hang out in the cosy lounge of an underground observation hide at the waterhole called “Tshembo Hide.” From this point of view, you can look into the eyes of an elephant and see the amazing wildlife up close.

Try the fine dining under the beautiful African night sky while a roaring fire keeps you warm. There are also a number of places to eat both inside and outside. Enjoy a romantic dinner on your own private deck for those special occasions.

South African wines of world-class quality are served with traditional Southern African food.

Find out why Mother Earth sent Scorpion to kill Orion when you look at the stars.

Do not miss this chance to see how big the sky is under a South African sky, if the weather cooperates.

Enjoy a drink by the pool, which looks out over the Madikwe Game Reserve. On the wooden sun deck, you can lie on loungers and enjoy the warm weather of Africa.

Let your kids play in the playroom, which has toys, art supplies, and DVDs for them to watch. There are also babysitters who will watch them while they play in the playroom or go bug hunting with their friends.

On request, the cosy “Leisure Room” can be used for a formal board meeting, a lounge-style conversation, a private meal, or even an evening of watching a soccer game on the big TV screen.

Spa massages and treatments are some of the other things you can do when you are at Rhulani.
