The Black Rhino Game Reserve is a privately owned game reserve inside the boundaries of the Pilanesberg National Park. It is located on the northwestern edge of the greater Pilanesberg area and has a private entrance.
The presence of sweet veld vegetation, as opposed to Pilanesberg’s predominantly mixed sour veld vegetation, is one of the most obvious ecological differences between the Black Rhino Game Reserve and Pilanesberg, even though the ecological conditions at both locations are very comparable to one another.
The Tswana word for “giraffe” is where the name “Thutlwa Safari Lodge” originates from. Giraffes can be found in great numbers on the reserve, and bird watchers will have the opportunity to observe and study over 354 distinct bird species.
The reserve is home to a wide variety of dangerous animals, including lions, leopards, buffalo, elephants, and both black and white rhinos. Eland, sable, impala, gemsbok, tsessebe, and springbok can also be found here.
If you want more of a challenge, you should also try to find the “Small 5,” which consists of an elephant shrew, an antlion, a buffalo weaver, a leopard tortoise, and a rhino beetle.Â

In contrast to the vast majority of lodges that cater to the general public, infants and toddlers are encouraged to accompany their parents on game drives.
The lodge was designed to accommodate exclusive groups of people. The open-plan layout creates an atmosphere that is reminiscent of a “home away from home,” complete with all of the creature comforts that one would anticipate finding in a luxurious lodge that is reserved for exclusive use.
When you book an exclusive-use lodge, you gain the freedom to enjoy the entire space without being concerned about the other guests or how your vacation might impact them. This allows you to make the most of your time away from home.
If you choose to stay at Thutlwa Safari Lodge, you will have the opportunity to select the times and lengths of your safaris, as well as who will accompany you on your drive. Young children are welcome to accompany their parents at their discretion.

Lodge Rates differ for midweek and weekends. The lodge can be rented for exclusive use by a group of up to eight people, as long as all guests are at least 10 years old and stay for a minimum of two nights.
Children who are younger than nine years old do not count as separate guests and will be accommodated in the safari chalets on fold-up mattresses alongside their parents. Baby cots are available on request.
On game drives, children of any age are allowed, but they are required to sit in a seat rather than on their parents’ laps.
