The Morukuru Family Madikwe group is made up of three private homesteads: The Owner’s House, the River House, and the Farm House. They are all in a private concession in the southeast corner of Madikwe Game Reserve.
Each luxury homestead has a butler, a host, a chef, a vehicle for game drives, a tracker, and a guide. The owner has created places where families with kids of all ages can completely unwind and feel comfortable.
Morukuru, which in Tswana means “Tamboti Tree,” is a private bush lodge on the edge of the Marico River, right under the many Tamboti Trees that grow along the river.
The Forest Villa is good for private groups and families who want to have the lodge all to themselves.
This luxury bush villa has three air-conditioned bedrooms with private decks and bathrooms that connect to the central living area. The central living area is a large lounge with rich modern details and a fireplace for a cosy touch. In this central area is an attractive dining room that can meet all your culinary needs, whether you want a light snack or a first-class dinner.
The Lodge is also the perfect place for guests to eat outside on the wooden decks that are shaded by the tall Tamboti trees and look out over the swimming pool area and the riverbed, where animals come to cool off and drink. In the evenings, eat traditional African dinners around an open fire under the stars.
With your own private game ranger and 4×4 wildlife viewing vehicle, you’ll be able to see wildlife in ways you’ve never seen before. The 5 star Morukuru Lodge lets guests choose between safari drives and walks at times that work for them.
Accommodation
Each of the three exclusive-use houses has its own guide, host, butler, chef, housekeepers, and babysitters, for a total of 8 to 10 people. If guests want to book both houses for a bigger group, they can easily walk from the River House to the Owner’s House.
The five luxury suites in the Farm House make it a great place for large groups and families. This modern and contemporary homestead is the perfect place for a large family to live in privacy.
The Morukuru Owner’s House is in the Madikwe Game Reserve in the Northwest Province, close to the border with Botswana. It is a few kilometres from the Marico river. This 500 ha private farm is part of the Madikwe reserve, so animals can roam freely on the land.
The idea is that couples, families, and groups of friends who want complete privacy can rent the owner’s house, which is 50 metres from the Lodge itself.
The Owner’s House offers excellent personal service with its own butler, a warm and welcoming African atmosphere, and excellent food. When people come to the house, they go through the design lobby to get to their closets. Next to that is a large, luxurious lounge with modern touches and a fireplace for a warm touch.
The dining room is just a few steps away. To the left of the stairs is the wine cellar, where guests can choose from the best South African wines. The private chef will make great meals in the kitchen, which is right next to the dining room.
From there, you can go to the library, which has books, CDs, and DVDs for guests to use when they want to relax. There is also a 42-inch flat-panel TV, a Bose home sound system, an office desk, and a computer with wireless internet access.
One of the bedrooms faces north towards the hills and has a private bathroom with a Jacuzzi, an indoor rain dance shower, and an outdoor shower. The other room faces the river and has a private bathroom with a rain dance shower and an outdoor shower that looks out over the 14-meter-deep rim-flow pool, where you can soak up the African sun and go for a long, cold swim.
For the most romantic night under the stars, you have to take a bath outside. There is one right next to the rim-flow on the river’s edge.
Guests will have their own private game viewing vehicle and game ranger. This gives you the freedom to schedule safari drives at times that work best for your group, though the best times to see wildlife are early in the morning and early in the evening.
The Owners House has 2 King bedrooms with Mosquito nets, private bathrooms with a bathtub and a shower inside and a shower and bath outside, a living room, library, and dining room, Wine Cellar, and private Boma deck with a heated pool.
River House has 3 King bedrooms with mosquito nets, bathrooms with bathtubs and both indoor and outdoor showers, a Kids bedroom with 4 bunk beds, living room, library, and dining room and private Boma deck with a heated pool.
The Farm House has 5 King bedrooms, bathrooms with bathtubs and both indoor and outdoor showers, an outdoor bath, living room, library, and dining room, private Boma and heated swimming pool.

Activities
During their stay, guests at Morukuru Family Madikwe have as much freedom and flexibility as possible. Activity schedules are made to fit each person’s needs. Game drives are done in your own vehicle with a guide and tracker, and guided Big 5 bushwalks are possible if you ask for them and there is time.
Birdwatching, fishing, outdoor mini-adventures for kids, romantic sleep-outs in the hide under the stars, bush breakfasts and lunches, candle-lit dinners, and memorable braais/barbecues on the mountaintop or by the river are also part of your stay.
