Tau Game Lodge is a luxury safari lodge in South Africa. It is on the very northern border of the country, in the malaria-free Madikwe Game Reserve, which is the country’s fourth largest game reserve.

This South African nature reserve is home to 27 major species of game, which makes Tau Game Lodge the perfect place for a safari holiday.

The main goal of Madikwe Game Reserve is not the same as the main goal of other Game Reserves, which are mostly about wildlife and conservation. The Reserve is more than just a place for conservation or tourism; it is also a major social and economic centre.

Madikwe was established in the early 1990’s as a result of an economic analysis, which explored two land use options; Big Five ecotourism and extensive cattle farming. The analysis showed that the area was best for wildlife tourism, which would create more jobs than agriculture.

The community benefits from both the community-based projects and the jobs that are created in and around the Game Reserve.

This method is often called “community-based wildlife conservation,” and other developing countries are looking at it as a way to improve their economies.

Tau Game Lodge is made to fit in with its beautiful surroundings and gives guests a real safari experience. This high-end safari lodge looks out over a big watering hole, so guests can watch animals while they relax in the main lodge area.

Tau invites you to indulge in delicious buffet breakfasts and lunches at the main lodge or out on the veranda, next to the pool. Evenings are spent in a cosy boma, eating a delicious meal and looking up at the stars.

Tau Game Lodge is an ideal conference venue with state of the art conference facilities. Up to 60 people can stay at Tau Game Lodge.

At this South Africa luxury safari lodge, you can enjoy a real South African safari in the middle of natural wildlife, with great game viewing and private luxury facilities.

Madikwe is run as a joint venture by the North West Parks Board, the private sector (lodge owners), and the local people. The goal is to encourage wildlife-based economic activity that is good for the environment and helps the local people.

Mosetlha Bush Camp is an eco-lodge owned by a family and is right in the middle of the Madikwe Game Reserve, known for its private and exclusive wilderness experiences. Mosetlha’s goal has always been to give guests an unforgettable experience in the wilderness without hurting the environment and by following the criteria to be called an Eco Lodge.

The Mosetlha Bush Camp and Eco Lodge was built in 1995, not long after the Madikwe Game Reserve was officially established. Mosetlha is the second oldest lodge in the reserve and the only real bush camp and eco lodge – in short, it is the unpolished jewel in Madikwe’s crown.

Founder Chris Lucas discovered this perfect spot when following an elephant path to a large mosetlha tree near a pan in the middle of the park. Mosetlha is the Setswana word for the Peltophorum africanum tree, which is also called the “weeping wattle” or “crying tree” in Afrikaans. Mosetlha means “the yellow one” in Setswana, because the tree’s flowers are yellow.

The people who work there with the owning family are all from the area and some have been with Mosetlha for at least twenty years.

Accommodation

On each side of the lodge, 30 luxury thatched chalets are spread out in a U shape, giving great views of animals coming up to the water from the other side.

As a place that welcomes families, Tau Game Lodge has a Family Suite and a Family Unit where parents and kids can stay. These are made up of two chalets connected by an adjoining lounge. The sliding doors provide amazing views of the breath-taking beauty and peacefulness of the varied bushveld’s rough surrounds.

All of the Chalets have a view of the animals coming to the watering hole. Each chalet has its own viewing deck, bathroom, and open-air shower, so you can be sure to have your own space.

Facilities

Apart from the accommodation options at Tau Game Lodge, which comprises standard chalets, deluxe chalets, a family unit and family suite, there is a dining area, boma, swimming pool, and viewing deck.

Wi-Fi is available in public areas and there is a game room and conference centre.

Public areas are wheelchair accessible.

The Wellness Spa offers the ideal opportunity for guests to relax, revitalise and rejuvenate their body, mind and soul in uniquely African surroundings.

Our Spa therapists have been trained in a wide range of treatments, from traditional African treatments to hydrotherapy treatments.

Guests can make their own Spa experience with our treatment options or choose one of the specially designed Spa packages. After their treatments, they are encouraged to stay and relax in a private Sala. You can also buy great gifts at the Spa oasis or the curio shop.

Activities

Rangers at Tau Game Lodge are friendly and knowledgeable and take guests on game drives in the morning and evening, and they can also set up bush walks.

At Tau’s wellness spa, you can feel the peace of the African bush. The therapists are highly trained and can help you relax in many different ways.

Qualified rangers take guests in small groups on game walks. These game walks are set up with Lodge Management while you are at the Lodge. Game walks are offered for people 16 to 60 years old, and if you have a pre-existing medical condition, you will need a doctor’s note to say that you are healthy enough to do the walk.

At the Tau Game Lodge Spa Oasis, you can relax, re-energize, and heal your body, mind, and spirit in an African setting. A Hot Rock Massage is one of the popular wellness treatments.

Children between the ages of 3 and 5 automatically join the Tau Cubz Club, which is a lot of fun. After breakfast, there is a short game drive just for the kids. Children are kept busy after their game drive with treasure hunts and arts and crafts. The kids get their own Cubz Club backpacks, which contain a wildlife activity book with an animal sticker checklist, a deputy ranger sticker badge and certificate (signed by their personal ranger), and a special Tau T-shirt.

Cubz Club gives the parents a chance to relax and enjoy the safari while knowing that their kids are well taken care of, stimulated, and entertained.

The bush is a great place for families to spend time together relaxing, as long as they are responsible and follow the rules of the bush. Tau’s living area is safer because it has an electric fence around it.

A playroom is also set aside for kids to do arts and crafts and other activities that are supervised. In addition to the food for adults, the chef has plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables that are good for kids.

Children between the ages of 6 and 11 can join the adult safaris. They will also get a special Cubz Club activity book and are welcome to join their siblings during the Cubz club activities.
