Itinerary

DAY 1: CAPE TOWN - OUDTSHOORN (approx 420 kms)

Guests are collected from a pre-arranged pick-up point in Cape Town. We set off along the famous Route 62 and wind our way through mountain passes, vineyards and tropical fruit orchards to the quaint town of Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, otherwise known as the “Ostrich Capital of the World”.

We go straight to the Cango Caves for an underground tour of its dripstone caverns which open into vast halls of towering stalagmite and stalactite formations. You can choose to go on the heritage tour or the adventure tour which sees you crawling on your hands and knees through underground tunnels.

The day ends with an evening out in Oudtshoorn. You can eat out at one of the popular restaurants in town which serve authentic Karoo meals or stay in for a braai (barbeque) of ostrich or lamb kebabs.

Overnight at Backpackers Paradise in Oudtshoorn.

Activities included:

  • Cango Caves Heritage or Adventure Tour

Includes: No meals

DAY 2: OUDTSHOORN - SEDGEFIELD (approx 95 kms)

Wake up early and join your ranger for an optional guided bush walk in Buffelsdrift Private Game Reserve and interact with three hand-reared orphaned elephants. Your day starts a bit later if you don’t go on the elephant walk.

After a good breakfast, we depart for the beautiful Garden Route. Our first stop is in Wilderness for a leisurely canoe ride down a magical river that’s flanked by an ancient indigenous forest. Enroute to Sedgefield, we stop at Bloukrans Bridge which is the highest commercial bungee jump site in the world. You have the option of bungee jumping off the 216 metre-high bridge or ziplining across the gorge.

The day ends at a backpackers hostel in Sedgefield and an evening eating out in town at one of the many popular seaside restaurant or bars.

Overnight at Afrovibe in Sedgefield.

Activities included:

  • Wilderness canoeing
  • Optional activities (excluded in the rate):

It’s a 42 000 hectare private reserve that’s well stocked with antelope and plains games, including the rare golden wildebeest, mountain zebra and black impala. At some point in the safari tour, your guide lets you get off the safari vehicle and takes you on a guided walk in the coastal bushveld.

We travel back to Cape Town on Route 62; sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery. Guests are dropped off at their Cape Town accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening.
