Discover the natural beauty of the Ceres valley and Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve in a magical part of the Western Cape. It’s a Big 5 safari tour with a difference where the rugged bushveld of the northern regions of South Africa is replaced by striking landscapes and panorama views of the towering Swartberg Mountains.
Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve is a 10 000-hectare game reserve located in a malaria-free area and a comfortable 2 to 3-hour drive from Cape Town. It’s home to an array of wild animals, including the Big 5 and a thriving coalition of cheetah.
ACCOMMODATION
Guests stay at the Tankwa Chalets at Inverdoorn Private Game Reserve. The chalets sleep two people and are made up as requested for couples or singles sharing.
Each chalet has an ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning for heating and cooling, a private veranda which overlooks the lodge’s succulent cactus garden, a fully-stocked mini-bar (charged for items consumed) and an espresso beverage-making machine.
The Tankwa Chalets are elegantly decorated and exude romantic charm with wood-burning fireplaces. Bathrobes and complimentary toiletries are supplied. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available.
Drive to Inverdoorn via Ceres
The scenic drive from Cape Town to Inverdoorn Game Reserve takes you through the tropical fruit-growing area of Ceres. The valley was named after the Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility and is renowned for its spectacular beauty and vast fruit plantations.
Buffet lunch, check-in and afternoon tea
After welcome drinks, enjoy a delicious buffet lunch (from 13h00) served under the trees or in the Main Rondawel restaurant. Check into your chalet from 14h00. Spend the afternoon at leisure exploring the gardens or relaxing in your chalet. Join everyone on the deck for afternoon tea or coffee at 16h00 in summer and 15h30 in winter.
Sunset Big 5 safari tour
The afternoon game drive in an open safari vehicle departs at 17h00 in summer or 16h00 in winter. Blankets and hot water bottles are provided in cold weather; bring warm jackets, beanies and gloves.
The length of the game drive depends on what you see and stop for but it’s generally between 2&half to 3 hours long, returning to the lodge between 19h30 and 20h00.
Pre-dinner drinks, 5-course set menu dinner and overnight stay
Freshen up in your chalet and then join your hosts for pre-dinner drinks (own cost) at the boma or indoors in the cosy lounge and bar area. A 5-course set-menu dinner is served in the Traditional Rondavel restaurant around the fire pit (weather dependent) from 20h00 in summer and 19h30 in winter.
After dinner, relax around the roaring fire while your ranger serves drinks from the bar (own cost). Retire to your chalet and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep in the stillness of the Ceres Karoo.
Sunrise Big 5 safari tour
Early wake-up for a 2&half to 3-hour sunrise game drive at 06h00 in summer and 07h00 in winter. The length of the game drive depends on what you see and stop for; expect to return to the lodge between 08h30 and 09h00.
Breakfast and check-out
Hot beverages to welcome you back to the lodge. A hearty breakfast buffet-style is served from 09h00. Check-out time is 10h00. Relax around the lodge or go for a nature walk until it’s time to depart for Cape Town at 12h30. Your guide returns you to your accommodation in Cape Town mid-afternoon.
